Not as continuous syncing across platforms. Rockstar documents specific one-time profile migrations, not a system that keeps one GTA Online character up to date everywhere. You can move a profile from PS4 or Xbox One to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, and from GTAV Legacy to GTAV Enhanced on PC, but Rockstar does not support console-family-to-console-family or console-to-PC migration. The PC move also does not keep Legacy and Enhanced progress synchronized afterward. Rockstar’s migration guidance sets out the supported routes and limits.
What “cross progression” means for GTA Online
Cross-progression usually means that the same game profile stays synchronized as you switch between platforms. GTA Online does not offer that broadly across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Rockstar’s documentation describes one-time migrations for specified routes; it does not promise ongoing synchronization between platform families.

That distinction matters: a migration moves an eligible profile to a supported destination, but does not make the character available and current on every platform you own.
Which GTA Online profile transfers are supported?
| Starting point | Destination | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| PS4 | PS5 | Rockstar documents a one-time profile migration. PS4 physical-disc owners can use the PS5 upgrade route, but need the disc to verify ownership. Check Rockstar’s current instructions for upgrade and eligibility details. |
| Xbox One | Xbox Series X|S | Rockstar documents a one-time migration. Its documented digital upgrade route does not let physical-disc owners upgrade to a digital version. See Rockstar’s current instructions. |
| PS4 or Xbox One | PS5 or Xbox Series X|S | Rockstar’s transfer guidance says either previous-generation console can migrate to either current-generation destination. This is a one-time move, not continuing cross-family synchronization. Check the transfer guidance before starting. |
| PS5 | Xbox Series X|S, or the reverse | Not supported: Rockstar says profiles cannot be migrated between the PlayStation and Xbox console families. See Rockstar’s transfer rules. |
| Console | PC, or PC | Rockstar does not support migration between a console family and PC. See the supported routes. |
| GTAV Legacy on PC | GTAV Enhanced on PC | A one-time profile migration is available through the Enhanced landing page or Pause Menu. Progress remains in Legacy but will not sync with Enhanced after migration; eligibility restrictions apply. See Rockstar’s PC migration guidance. |
| Supported PC storefront versions | Other supported PC storefront versions | Characters and progress are shared when the versions use the same Rockstar Games account. This is separate from the Legacy-to-Enhanced migration. See Rockstar’s PC account guidance. |
How to migrate a profile to a supported destination
- Confirm the route. Check Rockstar’s profile-transfer guidance for your starting platform, destination, and current eligibility rules. A supported route is a one-time move, not a way to keep profiles synchronized.
- Check the linked account. Make sure the correct PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag is associated with your Rockstar Games account before changing any links.
- Use the destination game’s migration prompt. For the Legacy-to-Enhanced PC migration, Rockstar says to start from the Enhanced landing page or Pause Menu. Follow the on-screen instructions for other supported moves.
- Review the profile and currency details shown before confirming. In particular, check the GTA$ rules below. If the profile is not offered for migration, consult Rockstar Support.
What happens to GTA$ and profile progress?
Rockstar distinguishes GTA$ earned in-game from GTA$ purchased with real money. Earned GTA$ transfers regardless of platform family during a supported profile migration. Purchased GTA$ transfers only within the same platform family—for example, PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. Consult Rockstar’s currency guidance for the specific rules that apply to your migration.

- Includes the complete grand Theft Auto V story experience
For PC Legacy-to-Enhanced migration, Rockstar warns that unspent GTA$ from the GTA Online Enhanced balance will be removed. Its guidance also says PC Shark Card purchases made after March 4, 2025, are deposited to Maze Bank accounts on both PC versions. That detail is specific to those PC purchases; it should not be assumed to apply to other platforms or currency situations. See Rockstar’s current GTA$ migration guidance.
On PC, Rockstar’s Legacy-to-Enhanced support article states: “After migration is complete, progress in GTA Online will not be synced between GTAV Legacy and GTAV Enhanced Online Profiles.” Legacy progress remains in Legacy, but activity in one version will not update the other after the move. Read the full PC migration guidance before confirming.

Why a profile may not be eligible—and an account-linking risk
Rockstar says a profile may be ineligible if it has a suspension or ban, or if it has illegitimate or insufficient progress. The migration prompt or Rockstar Support is the way to determine whether a specific profile qualifies; the general policy cannot establish an individual account’s status. See Rockstar’s eligibility guidance.
Rockstar also warns that console Story Mode and Online character progress is linked to the Xbox Gamertag or PSN ID. Linking a new console account to a Rockstar Games account can affect access to the prior account’s character progress. Verify which console account is linked before unlinking or relinking anything. Rockstar explains the account-linking implications here.

What to do if you are changing platforms
- Moving from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S: use the documented one-time migration route and check physical-disc or digital-upgrade conditions first.
- Moving between PlayStation and Xbox, or from console to PC: Rockstar does not document a supported profile migration for these routes.
- Moving from PC Legacy to PC Enhanced: treat it as a one-time move, and do not expect progress to sync between the two PC versions afterward.
