He named Sony’s third-party account management and partner development teams as support providers and said they were often a studio’s first points of contact. The interview does not say Sony funded the game or had an exclusivity deal with its developer, Game Science.
What Sony said about supporting Black Myth: Wukong
In Sony’s March 27, 2025 interview with Phil Rosenberg, the then-SVP of Global Partner Development and Relations described Sony’s Content Ventures team, led by Christian Svensson, as seeking promising franchises and helping nurture companies that may be unfamiliar to a broad audience.

Rosenberg said that approach led to support for several games, including Black Myth: Wukong: “The same approach also led our support of Genshin Impact, Black Myth: Wukong and Stellar Blade for example.” He added: “They get tons of support from the third-party account management team and the partner development team, who are often the very first points of contact.”
In context, “tons of support” refers to Sony’s partner-development and account-management support. Rosenberg did not enumerate specific services delivered to Game Science, quantify the assistance, or identify a funding arrangement.

Does this confirm a PlayStation exclusivity deal?
No. Rosenberg’s answer confirms support in some capacity, but it does not mention exclusivity, contract terms, or financing. It is not evidence that Sony paid for development or secured a PlayStation-only release.
PlayStation’s US product page lists Black Myth: Wukong as a PS5 action RPG published by Game Science Interactive Technology Co., Ltd., with a release date of August 20, 2024. That listing establishes the PS5 release details, not the terms of Sony’s relationship with the developer.

How the Xbox release fits into the timeline
In separate, later context, Insider Gaming reported on June 6, 2025 that Game Science had announced an Xbox Series X|S release for August 20, 2025. The report described the delay in terms of Xbox Series S optimization issues. That dated secondary report is distinct from Rosenberg’s account of Sony’s support and does not establish any contract terms between Sony and Game Science.
