Is Capcom Fixing Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Issues?

Capcom has issued and announced performance-related changes for Monster Hunter Wilds, but the documented fixes are scoped to specific platforms and situations—not a guaranteed solution for every FPS or stability problem.

Yes—Capcom has issued and announced performance-related changes for Monster Hunter Wilds, but that does not mean a particular update will fix every player’s frame-rate or stability problem. Its updates have addressed specific Steam processing load and frame-rate drops in some environments. The causes and results are not universal, so platform, game version, location, and PC hardware matter.

What Capcom has addressed

Capcom’s updates cover several different cases, not one all-purpose performance fix. The clearest PC example is a localized Steam issue near the Support Desk at Base Camp and in the Grand Hub; a later notice addressed frame-rate drops in some environments after a specified update.

When and where Capcom’s statement What it means for players
January 27, 2026 — Steam, Ver. 1.040.03.01 Capcom said its testing found CPU load could rise near the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand Hub because the game checked the status of claimed content. The FPS impact could depend on unclaimed content and CPU performance. Capcom said the issue was unintended and would be resolved in this update. The notes also described Steam-specific optimization, options to reduce processing load, and reviewed presets. Read Capcom’s patch notes. If your slowdown occurs in those areas on Steam, this named issue may be relevant. It does not explain performance problems everywhere else or on every platform.
Planned in the January 2026 notes — Ver. 1.041, scheduled for February 18 Capcom said additional stability and performance improvements across platforms were planned, including measures intended to reduce GPU processing load by adding levels of detail to 3D-model meshes. See the January notes. This was a plan stated in the notes, not a published benchmark proving a particular gain for a given system.
August 14, 2026 — Ver. 1.042.00.02 The official announcement says measures were being taken to address frame-rate drops in some environments following Ver. 1.042.00.01. It gives NVIDIA GeForce 581.57 or newer and AMD Radeon 25.9.1 or newer as driver guidance, and notes issues on certain PCs using AMD drivers 25.10.2 and higher. Check the current Steam announcements. The notice is scoped to some environments and a specific update sequence. Driver guidance can change, so consult the live notice for the current build before changing drivers.

Why FPS may drop near Base Camp or the Grand Hub

Capcom’s January 2026 explanation points to a specific Steam behavior: checking whether content had been claimed so the game could notify players about unclaimed content. That check could increase CPU load and affect FPS near the Support Desk at Base Camp or in the Grand Hub. Capcom said the effect depended on unclaimed content and could vary with CPU performance.

This is a useful diagnosis only when the platform, location, and circumstances match. A frame-rate drop elsewhere, a crash, or general stuttering is not automatically explained by this issue. Capcom’s cited notes do not establish a single cause for all player reports.

Check whether your PC meets Capcom’s published requirements

Capcom lists these Windows requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds. They are the publisher’s stated expectations, not a guarantee of smooth performance on every configuration or an independent benchmark. See Capcom’s system requirements.

Category Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-10400, Intel Core i3-12100, or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB VRAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB VRAM or AMD Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB VRAM
Memory 16 GB RAM
Storage 75 GB available and an SSD
Graphics API DirectX 12
Stated target Lowest settings at 1080p, upscaled from 720p, at 30 fps 1080p at 60 fps on Medium with frame generation enabled

If your hardware falls below the listed minimum, it is a reason to compare your system against Capcom’s requirements—not proof that replacing a component will fix a particular issue. Capcom lists an SSD as required, but that alone does not establish that switching drives will resolve stuttering, frame drops, or crashes.

Keep platform-specific changes separate

The Steam optimization notes and driver guidance concern PC players; they should not be presented as fixes for console performance. Separately, PlayStation announced on March 16, 2026 that Capcom adopted upgraded PSSR in Monster Hunter Wilds on PS5 Pro to further refine image clarity and stability. That announcement is specific to PS5 Pro, not PC or Xbox. Read PlayStation’s announcement.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched on February 28, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with cross-play. A patch or graphics feature on one platform does not establish identical performance changes on the others. Capcom’s launch announcement.

What to check before troubleshooting or upgrading

  1. Identify the platform and build. Check the game’s current version and open the announcement for that platform. The August 2026 driver details above apply to the cited Steam notice and may change.
  2. Match the symptom to the named issue. If you play on Steam and FPS falls near the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand Hub, compare your situation with Capcom’s January 2026 explanation. Do not assume it accounts for unrelated drops.
  3. Compare your PC with Capcom’s requirements. Check the CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, DirectX 12 support, free storage, and whether the game is on an SSD. Meeting the listed requirements is not a promise of a fixed frame rate.
  4. For the August 2026 Steam notice, verify driver guidance against the live announcement. Capcom listed NVIDIA GeForce 581.57 or newer and AMD Radeon 25.9.1 or newer, while flagging problems on certain PCs with AMD 25.10.2 and higher. Do not treat those time-sensitive details as permanent advice for every system.

What the published information does not establish

  • It does not quantify how common performance problems are or provide a general performance-gain percentage.
  • It does not provide configuration-by-configuration results showing the frame rate each player should expect after an update.
  • It does not establish one universal remedy for frame drops, stuttering, or instability across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.
