Cards of the Dead is a single-player digital survival card game from Boomfire Games and publisher JanduSoft. Released in 2021, it combines turn-based decisions, resource management and zombie-combat hazards across three connected survivor stories. A separate tabletop adaptation shares the name, but it is a different product.
What is Cards of the Dead?
The digital game casts players as survivors in a zombie apocalypse, with the story centered on finding a vaccine sample and stopping an infection. Its three connected narratives follow Rick, Selena and Dan. Steam lists the game as released on October 21, 2021, and identifies Boomfire Games as developer and JanduSoft as publisher. The store categorizes it across action, adventure, indie, RPG, simulation and strategy, while describing it as a survival card game. Steam’s listing and JanduSoft’s factsheet provide the official product details.
How does the digital game work?
Turn-based survival and supplies
The store description presents play as a series of survival decisions, with resource management at its core. Players look for food to restore health and gather weapons and equipment. The game also tracks vaccine exposure, making infection risk part of the survival challenge.
Combat, hazards and an extra mode
Weapons range from improvised items to firearms, and the description also mentions traps and environmental hazards. Completing story mode unlocks Deadly Night, which the listing describes as a timed, extreme-survival mission. These details reflect the developer and publisher’s store descriptions, not independent gameplay testing.

Is Cards of the Dead also a board game?
Yes. Mini Tabletop Games describes Cards of the Dead: The Board Game as an adaptation of the video game for one to three players. Players control a survivor and try to escape a zombie-infested city over three days, exploring locations for supplies while containing zombies. This is a separate tabletop product, not a digital-game edition. The creator page describes crowdfunding pledge tiers, but does not establish whether the campaign is still open or whether the game is currently available at retail. See the creator’s board-game page for its product details.
