Start by identifying when CarX fails
Note the exact error and the point where the game stops. A message such as “fatal error: can’t init steam. Try Restart…” is different from a crash immediately after pressing Play, a failure that began after a game update, or a freeze later in loading. Community discussions describe separate cases, not one confirmed underlying problem.
Write down any error text and whether the problem started after an update or after installing mods. That context will help you choose the relevant checks below and explain the issue if you contact support.
Check your PC against Steam’s minimum requirements
Steam lists the following minimum PC requirements for CarX Drift Racing Online. Meeting them does not guarantee stable operation or resolve a crash.

Steam also warns that stability is not guaranteed on Intel HD Graphics and AMD HD Radeon onboard graphics. If your PC is below the listed specifications, that is relevant context, but the available reports do not establish that a hardware shortfall is the cause of your particular crash. Try the basic Steam and software checks
A Steam community discussion suggests checking requirements, verifying the game files, updating video drivers, and removing mods if installed. These are community suggestions, not an official diagnosis or proven fix for every startup failure.

- Verify the game files: In Steam, open your Library, right-click CarX Drift Racing Online, select Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check before trying to launch again.
- Update the graphics driver: Install the current driver for your graphics hardware using its manufacturer’s supported update method, then restart the PC and test the game.
- Temporarily remove mods: If you installed mods, disable or remove them and test the unmodified game. Keep a copy of any files you move so you can restore them if needed.
Change one thing at a time and launch the game after each check. This makes it easier to tell whether a step changed the symptom.
If Steam says “fatal error: can’t init steam”
One commenter in the Steam discussion reported that starting Steam as administrator resolved their instance of this error; other users said it did not fix theirs. Treat it as a low-risk test with mixed reports, not a reliable solution: close Steam, launch it with Run as administrator, and try CarX again. If the error persists, return to the broader file, driver, and mod checks rather than assuming the message has one known cause.

A Reddit user reported that removing xrsdk-pre-init-library=UnityOpenXR from the game’s Boot.config fixed one startup crash after an update. Some commenters reported success; others said it did not work or only let the game load farther. This is an anecdotal, version-sensitive community workaround, not an official fix, and the discussion does not establish that it is safe or applicable to every current version.

If you choose to try it, first locate the game’s Boot.config, make a backup copy, and edit only if you are comfortable restoring the original file. Remove the exact line shown above, save the file, and test once. Restore your backup if the result worsens or you are unsure what changed. If you cannot confidently identify the correct file, skip this edit and contact support.
Contact CarX support if the checks do not help
Use [email protected] or the customer support link available from Steam’s CarX listing. Include your Windows version, processor and graphics hardware, game version, when the crash occurs, the exact error text, and which checks you tried. This information can help support understand the specific case; it is practical diagnostic context, not a published CarX requirement.
