For grid-based tactical RPGs, consider Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited; for real-time territory control, try Eufloria HD.
Best native Vita strategy games by play style
These recommendations cover distinct kinds of strategy rather than claiming one universal ranking. They are native Vita picks; PSP and PS1 games playable on Vita are listed separately below.
Frozen Synapse Prime: plan a squad’s moves before they happen
Choose this for deliberate squad tactics. You plan unit actions in advance, then watch the plans resolve against the opposing team. It foregrounds prediction and tactical execution rather than long-term character progression. Kresnik258 Gaming places it first in a personal list of Vita strategy recommendations: Kresnik258’s recommended Strategy Games for Vita.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus: turn-based squad combat with campaign stakes
In this alien-invasion campaign, you lead a squad through turn-based missions where losses can matter beyond a single encounter. It suits players who want tactical battles tied to a larger campaign. Nerdvana Central praises its tension while noting performance issues in the Vita port; the point is worth weighing if smooth performance is a priority. The game also appears among the leading titles in Whatoplay’s strategy ranking.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited: grid battles and extensive progression
This tactical RPG combines grid-based combat with extensive character, item, and post-game systems. Its density is part of the appeal for players who enjoy developing a party over time, but it may be a poor fit if you want a compact tactics game with few systems to learn.
Civilization Revolution 2 Plus: empire-building instead of squad missions
For a broader strategic scale, this is the clearest empire-building recommendation in the cited Vita lists. Its focus on expansion, diplomacy, and conflict makes it a different proposition from squad-level tactics: you shape a civilization rather than solve one battlefield at a time.

- Its first ever release in North America, Ys: Memories of Celeta will take players on a new adventure in never before seen locales within the Ys universe
- Eclipsing all previous entries in the Ys series in both size and content, the overworld map metes out battle and exploration in equal measure
- A robust mapping system with customizable waypoints and clear, detailed icons aid the journey through this mysterious new land
- The party battle system from Ys Seven makes its triumphant return, but with a host of upgrades such as enhanced flash-guarding, fully configurable party AI and unique abilities for party members to streamline encounters for fast and furious battle
- Boss Rush makes a comeback, pitting Adol solo against implacable foes or allowing for full-on party combat, to keep the challenge going well after the main story has been completed
Eufloria HD: real-time expansion across asteroids
Eufloria HD centers on growing seedling forces and capturing asteroids. It offers real-time unit and territory control, with a comparatively calm presentation and touchscreen controls described in Nerdvana Central’s guide. Choose it if you want to expand across a map rather than take turns on a tactical grid.
Hyperdevotion Noire: character-focused tactical RPG
This is another grid-based tactical RPG, with party progression and a more character-driven presentation. Its series references and tone may land best with existing fans; it is a less straightforward recommendation if you are looking primarily for military tactics or empire management.

Strategy-adjacent picks and ranking caveats
Darkest Dungeon: a broad strategy label, not a pure tactics game
Whatoplay ranks Darkest Dungeon first on its Vita strategy page. The game blends dungeon crawling, roguelike structure, and RPG systems, so it is better treated as strategy-adjacent than as a direct substitute for squad tactics or 4X empire-building.
Why lists disagree
Whatoplay’s page labels 79 titles as strategy and ranks Darkest Dungeon first, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition second, SteamWorld Heist third, Disgaea 4 fourth, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus eighth. That is one publisher’s category and ordering, not a consensus or definitive count of the Vita library. Broad genre labels can include building, puzzle, and RPG hybrids. Compare the style of play you want rather than treating a rank as an objective verdict: Whatoplay’s PS Vita strategy ranking.

Native Vita releases versus PSP and PS1 games playable on Vita
A game that runs on a Vita is not necessarily a native Vita release. Keep PSP and PS1 compatibility titles distinct from Vita games when browsing recommendations or listings. Kresnik258 Gaming’s list marks some legacy entries separately; check the game’s platform and regional availability before choosing one. The Reddit question that prompted interest in titles like The Settlers, Imperivm, and Pharaoh reflects a desire for territory or city-management play, but it does not establish that those games are Vita releases: the r/PSVita discussion.

What to check before buying a physical copy
Recommendations establish that games such as Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited and XCOM: Enemy Unknown Plus are Vita strategy options; they do not establish current stock, price, cartridge condition, or edition for your region. Check the listing itself before paying.
Quick Recap
- Confirm the platform is PlayStation Vita, not PSP, PS1, or another edition.
- Check the region and language details for the specific release.
- Verify that the listing is for a physical cartridge if that is what you want, and review its condition.
- Do not assume every region received a physical release. GamesRadar notes, for example, that Soul Sacrifice Delta lacked a Western physical release while an Asian English edition was available: GamesRadar+’s Vita game guide.
