Sandfall Interactive has not announced a paid expansion for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Its major post-launch release, the Thank You Update, was free and launched in December 2025. Co-founder Guillaume Broche has said the wider Clair Obscur franchise will continue, but his comments do not confirm an Expedition 33 DLC, sequel, story, or release date.
Has Sandfall announced paid DLC for Expedition 33?
No paid Expedition 33 expansion, price, or release date is established in the official announcements and interviews reviewed as of October 8, 2026. That describes what has been announced in those sources; it is not a promise that paid DLC will never happen.

The key distinction is between an update to the existing game and a separately sold expansion. Sandfall’s large post-launch content drop was explicitly free. The studio’s statements about continuing the franchise concern its future broadly, not a confirmed add-on for this game.
What did the free Thank You Update add?
Sandfall announced its plan for a free update on October 8, 2025, describing costumes, challenging boss battles, a new playable environment, and more. The update was released on December 12, 2025. The studio’s announcement lists these additions:

- Other improvements: quality-of-life changes and performance improvements.
The additions are part of a free update to Expedition 33, not a separately priced story expansion. Sandfall’s official game news page describes the update and its contents.
What have the co-founders said about the franchise’s future?
Broche said Clair Obscur will continue
In an August 2025 interview reported by Windows Central, creative director and co-founder Guillaume Broche distinguished the franchise from the story of Expedition 33. He said: “Clair Obscur is the franchise name. Expedition 33 is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise. Exactly what it will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.”

That statement confirms an intention to continue the broader franchise. It does not identify the next story or confirm that it will be an Expedition 33 expansion, a direct sequel, or a particular kind of game.
The next project was still unspecified in July 2026
In an interview published July 29, 2026, Broche said Sandfall had enough people for pre-production on its next project, but that it was “too early to say anything precise.” He said the team wanted to find the creative passion it had while making Expedition 33 and to “dream again and be creative again.” The interview discusses the studio’s next project without identifying it as DLC or a sequel. What happened after the Thank You Update?
Sandfall’s April 24, 2026 anniversary post reported a smaller update that added new haircuts. The post also said Expedition 33 had reached 8 million copies sold; that is the studio’s reported figure, without a separately specified platform breakdown or sales-measurement methodology. The anniversary announcement did not announce a paid story expansion. See Sandfall’s official anniversary post.
In an interview about the earlier free update, Broche described the team’s intention to add content fans would enjoy, including costumes, challenging boss battles, and a new environment. What to watch for in a future announcement
If Sandfall announces more content, the announcement should clarify whether it is a free game update, paid DLC, or a new game. For a paid expansion, the details that matter most to players are confirmed story scope, price, supported platforms, and release date. None of those details for a paid Expedition 33 expansion is established by the announcements discussed here.
