The categories span the game’s direction, story, art and music as well as its performance, indie status and role-playing design. The award count is nine wins at the 2025 ceremony; it does not by itself establish a record against every previous ceremony.
How does the nomination record differ from the win total?
SEGA’s December 12, 2025 announcement said Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received 12 nominations and described that tally as the most in The Game Awards’ history at that time. Nominations and wins are different measures: the first is the number of categories in which the game was nominated, while the second is the number it won. The nine-win tally comes from The Game Awards’ post-ceremony announcement.

Sales reported by SEGA
SEGA reported worldwide cumulative sales of more than five million copies in 2025, counting digital and packaged versions. That is the publisher’s announcement-time figure, not a current sales total.
Viewership for The Game Awards
The Game Awards reported an estimated 171 million global livestreams of the full 2025 show, up 11% from 154 million in 2024. The count excludes associated clips and trailers, and the 2025 figure excludes Prime Video. It measures show livestreams, not copies sold or people who played the game.

What is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a reactive turn-based RPG with real-time battle mechanics, set in a fantasy world inspired by France’s Belle Époque. Its story follows an expedition seeking to end a cycle in which the Paintress marks a number each year and causes people of that age to die.
SEGA lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its documented packaged edition is for PS5. SEGA’s Japan-market listing gives an April 24, 2025 release date and a suggested retail price of ¥6,727 before tax or ¥7,400 including Japanese tax; those are historical Japanese details, not current worldwide prices.

What did SEGA announce about the free update?
In its December 12, 2025 announcement, SEGA said a free “Thank You” update was being distributed across all platforms and regions. The announced additions included a new story area, music, a high-difficulty boss, photo mode, additional language support and FSR 4 support on PC. This describes the update as announced at that time, not its current availability or status.
