Clicker Heroes is a free-to-play idle game built around clicking monsters, upgrading heroes and watching progress continue while you are away. Steam user reviews are favorable in the available snapshot, but that is player sentiment on one storefront—not a professional review consensus or a verdict on the mobile versions. Whether its steady number growth is satisfying depends on how much you enjoy incremental progression.
What kind of game is Clicker Heroes?
Developed and published by Playsaurus, Clicker Heroes was released on Steam on May 13, 2015. Its basic loop is straightforward: click monsters to earn gold, recruit and upgrade heroes, and build progress that can continue while idle. The appeal is the gradual increase in damage, resources and progression rather than a conventional story-driven campaign. The Steam store describes it as “the OG idle game that will turn you from a casual clicker into a number-obsessed maniac”—promotional wording that captures the game’s focus on escalating numbers, not an independent review.
How does Ascension change progression?
Ascension is the game’s central reset-based progression mechanic. Rather than simply adding another level to the current run, it trades away accumulated progress for Hero Souls and lasting power. The Steam description calls it “the big reset that trades all your progress for shiny Hero Souls and permanent power.” That exchange makes resetting part of advancement: players give up a run’s progress to gain an enduring benefit for future progress.
What do Steam reviews say?
Steam’s storefront labeled Clicker Heroes “Very Positive” in the figures accessed on October 8, 2026: 86% positive from 88 reviews in the preceding 30 days, and 88% positive from 28,660 English-language reviews overall. These are Steam user-review counters, not professional critic scores. They are also snapshots that can change, so check the live Steam page for current figures.

The positive Steam rating suggests many reviewers on that platform respond well to the game, but it cannot establish how a new player will feel about its incremental loop, how mobile players rate it, or what critics think. No reliable cross-platform professional review consensus is established here.
What should mobile players make of app reviews?
Individual App Store reviews describe fitting the game into brief moments: one reviewer says they can “play for just 2 minutes and then close the app with no penalties,” while another mentions playing “while bored at work.” Those comments illustrate why short, interruptible sessions may appeal to some players; they are examples from individual reviewers, not a representative survey or proof of typical play habits. They also do not establish that the mobile and Steam versions have identical features or progression.

What’s different about the Steam version now?
A Steam update announced on June 22, 2026 added full controller support. It is an optional input feature for the Steam version; the announcement alone does not show that a controller is necessary, more comfortable, or preferable to other controls. The Steam store page is the place to check the current listing and review snapshot.
Which version’s reviews should you consult?
Use reviews from the storefront and platform you plan to play on. Steam reviews describe Steam users’ experience; App Store comments reflect individual mobile players. Their ratings and comments should not be treated as directly comparable measures. The available evidence does not establish save transfer between platforms, feature parity, or current mobile version details, so check the relevant store listing for platform-specific information before deciding.

Is Clicker Heroes worth trying?
It is most likely to suit players who enjoy watching a simple action loop turn into long-term incremental growth, including making deliberate resets for lasting gains. Players looking for a conventional campaign or a more varied moment-to-moment activity may find that loop less compelling. The favorable Steam user rating is a useful signal about that platform’s reviewers, but the decision ultimately turns on whether clicking, upgrading and idle progress sound enjoyable to you.
