Borderlands 4 launched in 2025, so there is no upcoming preload or release date to plan around. 2K announced September 12, 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, followed by Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3. The official sources cited here do not confirm a final installed size by platform or a complete preload schedule.
When did Borderlands 4 release?
2K announced a worldwide release on September 12, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on October 3, 2025. Both dates have passed. 2K’s June 16, 2025 preorder announcement set the initial date, and its September 12 launch announcement confirmed availability and the Switch 2 date.

Historical launch unlock times
For the September 2025 launch, PC Gamer reported that the PC version was scheduled to unlock globally at 9 a.m. Pacific Time on September 11, 2025. Its report said console versions unlocked at midnight local time on September 12, except in the Los Angeles time zone, where the unlock was 9 p.m. on September 11. These are historical timings, not a current or upcoming schedule. PC Gamer’s September 10, 2025 launch guide is the source for those times.
Could you preload Borderlands 4, and how large is the download?
PC Gamer reported on September 10, 2025 that Steam did not offer a preload option at the time of its check, shortly before the PC launch. That dated report does not establish preload availability on Epic Games Store or any console platform, nor does it prove the final status across all platforms.

The official 2K announcements and the Borderlands Support FAQ cited here do not state a final installed size for each platform or provide a complete platform-by-platform preload schedule. In other words, these sources do not establish an authoritative file-size figure to plan around; a partial download figure or a storage requirement should not be mistaken for the final installed size. The Borderlands Support FAQ was updated June 30, 2026. Current platform-store listings may provide requirements, but they are not a confirmed installed-size comparison in the sources cited here.
Which editions and formats were announced?
2K’s U.S. launch announcement listed three editions and prices. The amounts below are historical launch prices, not current offers; prices and available bundles can change by platform, region, and retailer. 2K’s preorder announcement describes the launch editions and contents.

The support FAQ says Standard Edition was offered physically for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and digitally for all listed platforms. It also describes a separate GameStop ECHO-4 Bundle containing an ECHO-4 statue, Vault Symbol necklace, Kairos map, lithograph prints, and a SHiFT code for five Golden Keys. The FAQ explicitly says the game is not included in that collectible bundle, so it is not a game edition.

2K said that Borderlands 4 purchases through Steam or Epic Games Store could also be played using NVIDIA GeForce NOW. That announcement establishes this specific cloud-play option; it does not establish availability through other cloud services. 2K’s launch announcement contains the GeForce NOW detail.
