Sony says the app is now called SuperPower. It does not switch your console or home to renewable electricity: the service describes a market-based way to support clean-energy demand, not a change to the power delivered to your PS5.
What is CleanPlay on PS5?
Sony announced CleanPlay as a third-party PS5 application available through the PlayStation Store on March 27, 2025. Sony’s August 20, 2026 sustainability update says the app is now named SuperPower. The current US PlayStation Store listing uses that name and identifies CleanPlay, Inc. as the publisher. Sony’s launch announcement and 2026 sustainability update describe the launch and subsequent name change.
The app’s offer combines information about gaming energy use with opportunities to support clean-energy projects or related efforts, plus digital rewards tied to participating games. Sony’s launch announcement described developer-supported premium in-game rewards; the current US Store listing mentions content such as packs, DLC, cosmetics and boosts. The exact games and rewards are offers that may change, so check the listing and the app for what is available in your market.
Does SuperPower power your PS5 with clean energy?
No. CleanPlay’s explanation describes matching average console gaming electricity with an equivalent amount of verified clean energy through a market-based mechanism. It explicitly says that this does not change the electricity flowing to your home or console. In other words, the service is framed as supporting demand for clean energy, not as delivering renewable electricity directly to your PS5. CleanPlay’s service explainer describes the mechanism.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The distinction matters when interpreting the environmental claim. The US Store listing says SuperPower supports clean-energy demand but does not directly reduce emissions from gaming activity or replace corporate sustainability commitments. So joining should not be described as eliminating your console’s emissions or changing its physical power source. The service’s stated mechanism is support for clean-energy demand; the sources cited here do not establish a separately measured emissions reduction for an individual player.
What rewards and energy figures does the listing mention?
The US PlayStation Store listing describes possible digital content including packs, DLC, cosmetics and boosts. It also displays the figure 200 kWh per year, described as about 1,000 hours of gameplay. That is a product claim shown in the listing, not an independently verified measurement of every player’s electricity use or a promise that an individual user will achieve a particular environmental outcome. Availability of the app and specific offers may vary by market.

Sony’s 2025 announcement presented rewards as part of the launch, but a reward should not be assumed to apply to every game or remain available indefinitely. Confirm the eligible title, reward, and any conditions in the current app or Store listing before counting on a particular item.
How much does the app cost?
As of the US PlayStation Store listing accessed October 8, 2026, SuperPower is shown as free to add, with optional in-game purchases. CleanPlay’s own explainer describes a subscription-based platform, but the sources available do not establish current subscription pricing or terms. Because the Store listing and company description do not settle the purchase details consistently, check the live Store and in-app purchase flow for your region before subscribing or making a purchase.
