Borderlands 4 debuted its first look at The Game Awards on December 12, 2024, introducing four new Vault Hunters, the planet Kairos, and a looter-shooter built around combat and weapons. The game is no longer upcoming: 2K released it worldwide on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
What did the first look reveal?
2K and Gearbox used The Game Awards 2024 to present the first look at Borderlands 4. The reveal established four new Vault Hunters and Kairos, an all-new planet, as the setting for the game. 2K framed the premise around intense action, the Hunters, and a large arsenal of weapons, while the official trailer described it as a looter shooter.

The trailer’s description called the video a “first look” that debuted at the 2024 awards show. That wording identifies the event debut; it does not mean the game is still unreleased. 2K’s December 12, 2024 announcement and the official Borderlands trailer present the reveal and its central details.
Who are the four Vault Hunters?
The first-look materials establish that there are four new Vault Hunters, but they do not name all four individually. So, if you are asking who the four are based only on the Game Awards reveal, the answer is that the announcement confirmed the number, not a complete roster of names. Later character announcements are separate from what this first look established.

How could players play together?
The official trailer description says players can play solo or cooperatively with up to three other players, for four players total. PlayStation’s event coverage specifies two-player local splitscreen and online play for up to four players. Those configurations are the details stated in the respective official materials; they should not be conflated into a claim that every mode or platform has identical options.

When did Borderlands 4 come out?
Borderlands 4 launched worldwide on September 12, 2025. 2K listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. These are the platforms named in the publisher’s release announcement; the date is not a forthcoming release window.
