Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land links crafting and combat: synthesis makes items for exploration and battle, while real-time fights reward reacting to enemy attacks, using the right range and element, and switching party members when useful. Standard altar synthesis and field-based Simple Synthesis are separate systems.
How standard synthesis works
The official manual defines synthesis as manipulating the mana in ingredients to create new items. You need a recipe, then use an atelier altar or a Simple Altar in a building area. New recipes can be learned at Recipe Recall Stations in building areas, and more become available as the story progresses. Official manual: The Basics of Synthesis
- Choose a recipe. Review the item’s listed effects and other properties to decide whether it suits your current need.
- Activate at least one Alchemy Core. Add the ingredients required by an available core. Effect Cores change activated effects, Quality Cores affect quality, and Trait Cores determine the number of Trait Crystal slots.
- Fill the ingredient slots. Ingredients contribute mana; the manual says that a higher mana value makes a stronger synthesized item. You can proceed without filling every slot, but the ingredients you place can also interact through resonance.
Recipe leveling uses particles and can unlock more Alchemy Slots and bonus effects. During synthesis, ingredient placement matters: resonance occurs when an ingredient’s resonance area touches another slot, strengthening the result. This is about how ingredients and slots connect, not simply whether an ingredient is rare. Trait Crystals, obtained through exploration, combat, and Mana Converters, can enhance completed items. What to compare when choosing ingredients or items
There is no single universally best ingredient or recipe established by the official materials. Compare the ingredient’s mana contribution, element, quality, resonance area, and compatibility with the core or effect you want. When comparing completed items, consider their effect, quality, element, cooldown, area of effect, uses, mana, resonance, and available Trait Crystal slots. Choose for the situation—such as an enemy weakness or an exploration need—rather than maximizing one number.

#1 Best Overall
- Create items interwoven with “mana”
- SYNTHESIS: Manipulate the "mana" residing in materials to create new items based on recipes. The items you craft will exhibit powerful effects in various situations, such as exploration and combat. The strength of an item's power depends on the materials used in synthesis, so select your materials carefully while assessing the power of the embedded mana
- A captivating variety of actions with “range” and “items”
- In real-time combat, you'll be tested on your ability to make split-second decisions. Utilise two types of attack ranges ("range") and switch between skills to fight strategically. Additionally, synthesised items can transform into shapes such as swords or spears, which can be used to attack. Since these items are reusable, don't hesitate to deploy them and drive away enemies that stand in your way.
What Simple Synthesis does
Simple Synthesis is a field-crafting option, not a shortened version of altar synthesis. While exploring, open the radial menu and use materials and energy to craft selected items for field use. Its recipe list expands with story progress and Pioneering Quests; crafted items go into the exploration bag when space permits. Official manual: Simple Synthesis
How combat works
Combat is real time, not turn based. An encounter starts when Yumia’s party contacts a monster or hits it with a swing or shot. Defeat enemies by reducing their HP to zero; the party loses if every member’s HP reaches zero. The manual describes split encounters, where enemies occupy separate combat areas, and rumble encounters, where all enemies are in one area. Victories award rewards such as EXP and ingredients. - UK PSN account may be required for any online features
Skills are tied to close or ranged positioning, so pay attention to the range available for the action you want. Items created through synthesis can take forms such as swords or spears and be used as reusable attacks. The party has three front guards and three rear guards that can be switched during battle, and some conditions enable Friend Actions. Official system page
Defend against attacks and exploit openings
Watch for the red flash just before an enemy attack; guarding or evading during that warning can avoid damage entirely. The manual recommends leveling up and crafting stronger equipment for progression, and says Friend Actions and Precision Counters can be improved through the Skill Tree. These are official recommendations, not a guarantee of a single optimal strategy.

- Mediterranean Horror: Explore the forsaken capital of an awe-inspiring archipelago. Do not let yourself be fooled by the gentle sea breeze, the Mediterranean vistas or the comforting summer sun. Since the Devil's Fevers pandemic ravaged the city, it was abandoned, and now only horrific nightmares await there.
- Survive your Nemesis: Someone is relentlessly hunting you. Suffer and agonize while you try to run away from the encounters with this strange stalker obsessed with you.
- Intense Challenges: Solve environmental riddles, physics puzzles and other similar challenges in an interconnected vertical world. Even while being chased and hunted.

Match elements to enemy weaknesses
Skills and items have elements, and hitting an enemy with an element it is weak to can deal massive damage. Items use fire, ice, bolt, and air. Check recipe details and the enemy you face, then weigh elemental coverage alongside range and the action’s cooldown or uses when choosing a party member or item. Mana Surge is a later-game option: environmental mana must reach 100% to activate it, and only characters at level 50 or above can use it. Surge Skills consume environmental mana. Once that meter reaches zero, the character’s HP begins to drain instead. If a character is KO’d during Mana Surge, the manual says they become “mana exhausted” and cannot be revived during that battle. Treat Surge as a high-risk tactical choice, not a free damage increase. Official manual: Combat Actions
Putting the systems together
Before a fight or exploration trip, decide what the immediate challenge calls for: an item with a useful effect, elemental coverage, or a particular area of effect. In synthesis, inspect recipe properties, choose ingredients for their mana and resonance interaction, and consider the core effects and Trait Crystal slots. In battle, adapt to enemy range and weakness, use the red attack warning to time defense, and switch party members when it helps. The official mechanics support these choices; they do not prescribe one best build or party composition.
