How Fortnite works on Switch Lite
Nintendo lists Fortnite for Nintendo Switch with handheld mode support. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance says Switch Lite can play games that support handheld mode, so Fortnite is playable directly on the Lite’s built-in screen.

That means handheld play—not TV play. Switch Lite does not support TV mode. Its built-in controls are sufficient for playing Fortnite handheld; Nintendo does not list a separate controller as a requirement for this use.
What you need to play
- An internet connection: Nintendo says Fortnite requires a persistent connection.
- An Epic Games Account: Nintendo lists an Epic account as required to play or access certain features.
- Fortnite for Nintendo Switch: Find the game in the Nintendo eShop on your console and download the Nintendo Switch version. Check the live eShop listing for its current download size, since the game can be updated.
Account linking and shared progress
You can link a Nintendo Account with an Epic Games Account. Nintendo says linking accounts enables cross-play features in certain games where available; supported progress and purchases may also be shared across platforms when the same Epic account is linked. Will it look and run the same as on other Switch models?
Not necessarily. Nintendo’s Fortnite listing states, “Software compatibility and play experience may differ on Nintendo Switch Lite.” Nintendo’s official sources do not give a Switch Lite-specific frame-rate or image-quality figure, so there is no basis here for promising identical performance.
If you mean playing on a TV

How to get started
- Open the Nintendo eShop on your Switch Lite and find Fortnite.
- Download the Nintendo Switch version, checking the store page for the current file size.
- Launch the game while connected to the internet and sign in or set up an Epic Games Account as prompted.
If a parent-managed account cannot launch Fortnite, review the console’s parental restrictions and the Epic account settings; the right steps depend on how those accounts are configured.
