The 2024 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer beta had real PC performance problems, including hitching and crashes, but the evidence does not show that it was unplayable for every PC player. Treyarch acknowledged performance-related issues in its September 24, 2024 recap and said major hitching fixes followed the beta’s close. It did not publish a rate of affected players or claim that every problem was fixed.
What went wrong in the Black Ops 6 PC beta?
Treyarch’s September 24, 2024 beta recap says the test exposed performance-related issues. The studio named work on general script errors, the in-game interface, asset streaming, and in-game hitching. Those are distinct problem areas, not evidence of a single underlying bug or a failure affecting every player.
Treyarch said it had deployed major hitching fixes after the beta ended and expected performance work to continue toward launch and through live seasons. The studio’s description supports reports of genuine disruption, but gives no count or percentage of PC players who experienced it.
“A smooth game performance is paramount to the player experience, and we’ve been able to chase down sources of in-game ‘hitching’ and deploy major fixes since the close of the Beta.”

Did later updates fix every beta problem?
No. Later patch notes show additional stability work, not proof that every beta issue was eliminated. The preseason patch notes list stability fixes for various GPU-related crashes on PC in an October 24, 2024 entry; a November 8 entry lists further stability fixes. They do not establish that these fixes covered every player’s crash, hitch, or other beta problem.
Keep the dates separate when assessing the claim: the beta and Treyarch’s recap were in 2024; those stability notes came later, in October and November 2024. Activision’s current PC troubleshooting page is dated July 2, 2025, so its guidance is for troubleshooting the game now—not a record of what beta players could do at the time.

How to troubleshoot Black Ops 6 PC crashes today
Activision’s PC troubleshooting guide, updated July 2, 2025, recommends starting with system and game checks. Follow steps that match your symptom and launcher rather than assuming every measure applies to every crash.
- Check Windows, requirements, and graphics drivers. Activision advises keeping Windows 10 or 11 current, checking the game’s minimum requirements, and using the graphics drivers listed on its support page. The versions shown there as of July 2, 2025 were Nvidia 566.03, AMD 25.5.1, and Intel 32.0.101.6790. Driver recommendations can change; check the live page before installing.
- Let shader preloading finish. Activision advises waiting for shader preloading to complete before leaving the main menu.
- Repair the game files in your launcher. Use Battle.net’s Scan and Repair, Steam’s file-integrity verification, or Verify and Repair in the Xbox app, depending on where the game is installed.
- Check for software conflicts if problems continue. The guide suggests closing interfering background applications, updating peripheral software drivers, and trying a clean boot. It also advises adding the game folder to antivirus exceptions. Use that security exception only for the game’s legitimate installation folder.
- Review tuning and security settings when relevant. If you have disabled ASLR, Activision advises re-enabling it. If crashes persist, it suggests disabling overclocking or tuning software.
- Report a persistent crash. Submit the details through Activision’s PC Crash Report so the failure can be investigated.
Activision also maintains a live known-issues page for issues it has identified or received reports about and is investigating or scheduling to fix. Check that page for current status; its listings can change.

Should you try the beta crash workaround posted on Steam?
A Steam Community user’s August 31, 2024 post said that, in that user’s case, unchecking non-BO6 Call of Duty DLC and disabling fullscreen optimizations appeared to fix a beta launch crash. Replies included players who said the method did not work. It is an individual experiment with mixed reported results, not an official or dependable universal fix; use Activision’s current guidance for general troubleshooting.
