To play it, use an Xbox 360 with the game and its required microphones. The Xbox 360 disc and microphones are not a workaround for playing on Xbox One.
Why Lips does not work on Xbox One
Microsoft announced Lips as an Xbox 360 exclusive in 2008. Xbox One backward compatibility supports selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles—not the full library—and Xbox’s catalog search returned no listing for Lips as of October 8, 2026. That supports the conclusion that the game is unavailable on Xbox One through backward compatibility; it is not an explicit Microsoft exclusion notice naming the game.

Xbox’s backward compatibility catalog and guidance are the place to check whether a particular Xbox 360 game is supported. Owning a disc alone does not make an unlisted game compatible.
Will the Xbox 360 disc or Lips microphones work?
No. Buying the Xbox 360 disc will not make Lips playable on Xbox One. Microsoft’s general Xbox One compatibility guidance says Xbox 360 accessories—and games that require them—are not compatible with Xbox One consoles. The original Lips release included two wireless motion-sensitive microphones, so those microphones should not be treated as a supported workaround.

Microsoft’s guidance is general platform information; it is not a model-specific test of the Lips microphones. The key point is that Lips itself is not supported on Xbox One.
How to play Lips
The supported route indicated by the game’s original release platform is an Xbox 360. Use an Xbox 360 console, a playable copy of Lips, and the microphones required for the game. A physical copy is relevant only if you can play it on Xbox 360; it does not enable play on Xbox One.

How Xbox One backward compatibility works
For a game that is in the compatible catalog, Xbox says an owned digital title appears in Ready to Install. For a compatible disc, inserting it starts a download, and the disc must stay in the drive while you play. These steps apply only to supported titles; they do not add Lips to the catalog.
