What happened to Xbox 360 DLC purchases?
Microsoft ended support for new purchases of Xbox 360 games, DLC, and other entertainment content through the Xbox 360 console Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace on July 29, 2024. You can no longer use those storefronts to buy an add-on, even if you can still access the console or browse its menus.

The closure affected the purchase storefront, not the ability to play Xbox 360 games. Microsoft said it remains committed to supporting Xbox 360 gameplay and access to previously purchased content. Microsoft’s Xbox Wire announcement, published August 17, 2023, explains the change.
Can you still buy Xbox 360 DLC somewhere else?
Sometimes. Microsoft said selected backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC would remain available to purchase through Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. It described the selection as “hundreds” of games and add-ons; that does not mean the full Xbox 360 catalog moved to the newer storefronts.

Check the exact game and DLC listing on your local Xbox storefront. A listing for the base game does not establish that its add-ons are available too. Availability can vary by title and region, and the base game and particular add-on must be supported on the newer console if you intend to play them there.
Can you redownload DLC you already bought?
Yes. Microsoft stated that content purchased before the storefront closure would remain playable and redownloadable. On the Xbox 360, use the console’s account purchase or download history to find owned content; menu wording may vary with the console interface. You can also check the relevant account’s owned games and add-ons on a newer Xbox console. Make sure you are signed in to the account that made the purchase.

Redownloading owned content is different from buying it again: the closure prevents new purchases through the Xbox 360 Store and Marketplace, but it does not cancel ownership of qualifying prior purchases.

What to check before buying or installing an add-on
- For a new purchase: Search for the specific game and add-on on Xbox.com or the Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S store for your region. Confirm the add-on itself is listed and purchasable.
- For play on a newer console: Check that both the base game and the DLC are supported there. Backward compatibility is title-specific, not universal.
- For content you already own: Sign in with the purchasing account and look in its download or purchase history. Microsoft says previously purchased content remains redownloadable.
