What Niantic’s rules say about bots
Niantic defines cheating as behavior that violates its Terms of Service, Player Guidelines, or Live Event Code of Conduct. Its Gameplay Fairness Policy gives GPS location spoofing and unauthorized access to game clients or backends through third-party software or add-ons as examples. Niantic’s Terms of Service guidance also identifies emulators, modified or unofficial software, and unauthorized third-party software or add-ons as conduct that may lead to enforcement.

That means the label “bot” alone does not settle whether a particular product violates the rules. A tool that automates play through unauthorized access, alters the game client, or falsifies GPS location falls within the kinds of conduct Niantic identifies as cheating. Niantic has not publicly ruled on every product marketed as a bot, and it does not publish a list of tools it considers safe.
What penalties can an account face?
Niantic describes an escalating three-strike process, but the durations are approximate and the sequence is not guaranteed for every case.

Niantic cautions that players may not receive all three strikes. Some behavior can result in immediate account termination without a prior warning.
Do player reports automatically cause a ban?
No. Niantic says that the number of reports by itself does not determine whether an account is banned. Reports from several unique players may prompt a more detailed investigation; Niantic says it takes action after identifying and confirming proof of inappropriate activity. Automated systems may also flag an account without any player report. See Niantic’s player-reporting guidance.

Niantic does not publicly explain its internal detection methods or the specifics of individual enforcement cases. No outside claim that a particular bot is “undetectable,” or that a specific in-game action guarantees a ban, is supported by those public statements.
How to appeal a suspension or termination
If you believe Niantic suspended or terminated your account in error for a Terms of Service violation, submit an appeal through the official support form and choose “Ban Appeal.” Niantic says it investigates appeals, but notes that very few terminations are overturned; reinstatement is not assured.

- Open Niantic’s Submitting a Ban Appeal page.
- Use the support form linked there and select “Ban Appeal.”
- Provide the requested account details and explain why you believe the enforcement decision was mistaken.
Is a sign-in problem always a ban?
No. A loading or sign-in error without a suspension or termination message may be a technical problem rather than an enforcement action. Check the message shown in the game and use Niantic’s current support guidance before treating a connection issue as a ban.
