Maybe, but Twitch does not say that Drops progress is guaranteed while its stream is in a background tab or after you alt-tab. Twitch’s viewer guide requires watching a live stream on a Drops-enabled channel but does not address tab focus or minimizing. For the safest approach, keep the eligible stream active and check your progress indicator.
Does alt-tabbing stop Twitch Drops progress?
Twitch Help’s Drops guide does not explicitly say whether switching apps, changing browser tabs, or minimizing the player stops progress. That means there is no supported universal yes-or-no answer: background playback may work in some setups, but Twitch does not guarantee it in the cited guidance.
For a conservative approach, leave the eligible live stream active in the browser while earning a Drop. Sea of Thieves support gives the same advice when troubleshooting a stalled timer, saying to keep the stream active rather than in a background window. That is game-specific support guidance, not a rule Twitch states for every campaign. Sea of Thieves troubleshooting
What counts toward Drops progress?
- Watch a live stream: the channel must be participating in the active campaign and marked Drops Enabled. VODs, replays, and clips do not count, according to Twitch Help.
- Earn on one channel at a time: Twitch allows you to switch between participating channels in a campaign and continue progress, but watching multiple channels simultaneously will not speed up a reward.
- Check the campaign and progress indicator: Twitch points viewers to Drops & More or Drops Inventory to monitor progress and rewards.
What to do if the progress bar is stuck
- Confirm the stream and campaign qualify. Check that the campaign is active and the channel is marked “Drops Enabled.”
- Watch only one Drops-enabled stream at a time. Switching channels over time is allowed, but simultaneous viewing does not multiply progress.
- Disable ad-blocking extensions. Twitch includes ad blockers among the things to check when troubleshooting stalled progress.
- Keep the stream active in the browser where possible. This is the cautious workaround; the Sea of Thieves recommendation specifically applies to troubleshooting that game’s Drop timer.
- Refresh the page and inspect Drops Inventory. Check whether progress changed or the reward is ready to claim.
How to claim a completed Drop
When the required watch time is complete, claim the reward through stream chat or Drops Inventory. Twitch says an unclaimed reward remains claimable from inventory for up to seven days after the campaign ends. Twitch’s Drops guide
