Arkheron is Bonfire Studios’ team-based PvP action game, combining isometric free-aim combat and changeable, loot-driven builds with a tower-climb mode that narrows teams toward a final 3v3. It has battle-royale-style survival pressure, but Ascension is not simply a conventional battle royale shooter: teams also fight monsters, capture beacons and advance floor by floor.
What is Arkheron?
Bonfire describes Arkheron as a fast-paced team PvP game. Teams of three enter a mysterious Tower, where weapons and abilities come from items called Relics. Steam lists Bonfire Studios as developer, Bonfire Studios and DRIMAGE as publishers, and the release date as “To be announced.” Bonfire’s homepage and the Steam listing establish the game’s concept and current announced status.

How does Arkheron work?
Isometric combat with free aiming
Combat uses an isometric view, but aiming is not limited to pointing in the direction a character faces: players swivel the camera to line up attacks. Bonfire describes close-range dodging and striking as central to the action, with the constrained view and audio cues contributing to tension. This supports an isometric action-game comparison, but does not establish that Arkheron plays like any particular role-playing game. Bonfire’s game overview details the combat model.
Relics let players reshape their builds
Relics provide weapons and abilities, so a build develops through items found during a run rather than through a fixed character class alone. Players can pursue four matching Relics to become an Eternal and unlock a fifth ability. They can also mix Relics from different sets, replace items as new ones appear and build around custom synergies. The practical trade-off is between pursuing a matching set’s transformation and adapting to the useful combinations available in the moment. The overview’s Relic and Eternal descriptions are the basis for this distinction.

Ascension turns the Tower into an escalating team contest
In Ascension, teams face a sequence of one-team-takes-all showdowns as they try to climb the Tower. On each floor, they fight monsters and rival teams and capture beacons before time expires. Successful ascents shrink the player pool, leading to a final 3v3 at the summit. The combination of rival-team elimination and a shrinking field is battle-royale-like; the floor-by-floor objectives, PvE enemies and tower progression make the structure more specific than a standard last-player-standing match.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Arkheron a battle royale?
Partly, if “battle royale” refers to survival pressure and a shrinking pool of teams. But Bonfire describes Arkheron as a team PvP action game, and Ascension adds PvE monsters, beacon control and successive Tower floors to that progression. Its close-range free-aim combat and Relic-driven builds also distinguish its gameplay from the shorthand “battle royale shooter.” That label captures one part of the format, not the whole game.
Is Arkheron released, and how can players get access?
Arkheron is still in development: Steam’s listing gives its release date as “To be announced.” Bonfire’s play page directs visitors to current access information, while its May 20, 2026 playtest update described weekly sessions and custom games. That update also said the arena-style Spires mode was being tested and Ascension was expected to return to rotation as access expanded; those details describe the update at the time, not a guaranteed current schedule. Check Bonfire’s Play Arkheron page for current access information and the playtest update for its dated details. The play page also invites creators to explore a Creator Program, but does not state eligibility, compensation, affiliate tracking or referral terms.
