Children of the Sun builds its levels around a memorable constraint: one bullet must do the work of an entire arsenal. Each stage is a compact route-planning puzzle in which you line up an opening shot, then steer the projectile between targets and obstacles. That makes the game’s level design compelling—but “one of the best levels of 2024” is a subjective verdict, not an established ranking, and no particular standout stage is identified by the available sources.
Why Children of the Sun’s levels are interesting
The game’s central idea turns each encounter into a problem of sequence and trajectory. You are not simply aiming at the nearest enemy: you are working out how a single projectile can travel through a stage, eliminate targets, trigger traps, or alter the environment. A route that looks impossible from the initial position may become workable once you account for what the bullet can do after impact.
That gives the levels a clear rhythm: study the arrangement, choose an opening shot, and adapt as the bullet moves. The satisfaction comes from solving the layout rather than relying on a conventional stream of ammunition.
How the one-bullet mechanic works
Steam describes the game as a tactical third-person puzzle-shooter in which the player guides one bullet through a level while hunting a cult. The projectile can be re-aimed when it hits a target, curved around obstacles, and accelerated to punch through armor. Those actions make the shot itself a sequence of decisions rather than a single trigger pull.

Targets and environmental interactions matter because each impact can shape the next part of the route. The challenge is to anticipate what the current hit makes possible, then steer toward a useful next target before the opportunity passes. The mechanic is easy to describe, but its precision gives the puzzles their bite.
Multiple solutions make replay part of the design
Devolver Digital says levels allow multiple solutions and describes a scoring system that rewards accuracy and efficiency. In practice, that design encourages experimentation: a route that clears the stage may not be the cleanest or highest-scoring route, so there is a reason to reconsider your shot sequence after finishing.

This is the strongest basis for calling the levels replayable. The publisher’s description establishes that alternate solutions and score-chasing are intended features; it does not prove that every stage offers equally satisfying options. How much a player enjoys repeating a level will depend on whether refining a route feels like a satisfying puzzle or an exacting aim challenge.
Is Children of the Sun difficult?
Expect precision to matter. In an April 9, 2024 review, NoobFeed Senior Editor Azfar Rayan praised the puzzle-solving, visuals, and sound, but also described a high accuracy requirement and two particularly frustrating difficulty spikes. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, not a universal measure of difficulty, but they point to the central trade-off: retrying a shot can be rewarding when you see a better route, and aggravating when execution keeps interrupting your planning.

Rayan’s review reports 26 stages and leaderboards, and notes that mechanics and target types are introduced as the game progresses. That reported stage count is the reviewer’s figure, not an independently corroborated total. The gradual additions suggest variety within the campaign, while the accuracy demands mean that players who dislike repeated attempts may find some puzzles less inviting.
Does it deserve to be called one of 2024’s best?
That depends on what “best” means to you. If you value levels that make a small set of actions feel expressive, reward route discovery, and give you a reason to improve a completed solution, Children of the Sun makes a strong case. If you mean a widely agreed ranking of a particular stage among 2024’s best, the cited evidence does not establish that: it describes the game’s design and one reviewer’s response, but names no specific best level and supplies no consensus ranking.

Its store page displayed 92% positive from 1,399 English reviews in a snapshot retrieved October 8, 2026; that is a time-sensitive Steam figure, not an enduring score or a direct rating of its levels. NoobFeed awarded the game 70 in its 2024 review. These are different kinds of evidence, and neither turns a subjective level-design judgment into an objective ranking.
