The 14 days are not a promise of approval, and a request after that point is generally outside the ordinary criteria. The available guidance does not establish a reliable numeric play-time cutoff. Xbox refers to a “significant amount of play time,” so do not assume a particular number of hours guarantees eligibility or denial.
How to request a refund
- Sign in to the Microsoft account used to buy the game and open Xbox’s digital-game refund request page.
- Find the purchase and choose Request a refund, if that option is available.
- Select the reason that accurately describes the issue and submit the request. Xbox reviews requests; submission does not mean the refund will be approved.
If the online refund option is unavailable in your market, Microsoft’s support guidance says to contact Sales support. If the purchase is missing from the account, confirm you are signed in to the account that made it.

Where you bought the game matters
This process is for digital games bought through Microsoft’s Xbox or Microsoft Store purchase flow. If you bought the game from another retailer, contact that retailer: Microsoft says it does not accept returns for products purchased elsewhere.
Microsoft’s general Store guidance says digital goods are generally non-refundable unless the specific offer or applicable law makes you eligible. Xbox’s web-purchase terms also call digital-product purchases final and non-refundable, while preserving statutory withdrawal rights and routes for addressing errors or disputes. Read those general terms alongside the dedicated Xbox game-refund process: they do not establish that every Xbox game refund is impossible.

When a late request may still be worth making
If the refund workflow allows you to submit after 14 days, you may explain the circumstances and ask Xbox to review the purchase. The available policy information does not establish that a late request qualifies for an exception, so do not treat submission as an entitlement. For a faulty product or a possible statutory right, contact Microsoft Support and check the consumer rules that apply where you live; legal rights vary by jurisdiction.
