Yes—but the documented way past StarRupture’s radiation border is to complete the Forgotten Engine mission. Creepy Jar’s Update 1 announcement says finishing it removes the border and opens new areas; it does not describe protective gear as an alternative.
How do you get past StarRupture’s radiation border?
- Progress through the story until the Forgotten Engine mission is available.
- Complete the mission and check the in-game quest state to confirm it is marked complete.
- Return to the radiation border. Update 1 says the mission removes it and grants access to new areas. Read Creepy Jar’s Update 1 announcement.
The announcement describes removal of the border, not a universal cure for every radiation effect in every location. It does not provide radiation thresholds, protection values, or other survival statistics.
What does the Forgotten Engine unlock?
Creepy Jar lists new resources and harvesting machines, additional points of interest, and more space for advanced factories among the benefits of entering the newly accessible areas. The announcement does not quantify the added territory or say that every previously hazardous location becomes safe.
Do suits, shields, or detectors work?
The official evidence reviewed supports mission progression as the way to remove this boundary. It does not verify radiation suits, detectors, shield generators, or power shields as necessary or effective for crossing it. An unofficial guide makes equipment claims, but those claims are not corroborated by the official update; do not treat them as established mechanics.

What if the border is still there after the mission?
- Confirm that the Forgotten Engine mission is actually complete in the current quest log.
- Check the in-game objective state and whether the game has registered the progression unlock.
- Consult current patch notes if the border persists. StarRupture is an Early Access game and continues to receive updates.
The Steam listing gives January 6, 2026 as the Early Access release date and showed Update 2 and a hotfix dated October 5, 2026. The mission unlock is documented in the Update 1 announcement dated April 10, 2026, so later patches may change behavior. Check StarRupture’s Steam listing for current updates.

That broader claim is not established. The official wording is that the mission removes the radiation border and opens new areas; it does not say that all radiation effects disappear everywhere. Treat the change as access through the documented progression gate, not proof of global radiation immunity.

- In the far future, countless alien species explore the galaxy in search of fortune and fame. The last interstellar war ended over fifty years ago and since then peace treaties have been in effect. Trade routes are set, civilizations flourish, and a new source of power was discovered – the Hexis crystals.
- Star Scrappers: Cave-in is the first game in the Star Scrappers series, set in a rich and exciting space-western universe, with a unique gameplay mechanics.
- Players take roles of Galactic entrepreneurs, rival mining bosses who compete in this difficult, sometimes even merciless industry.
- As a mining boss, you will have to recruit new mercenary laborers, use their skills, and collect precious artifacts. Your job is to excavate the Hexis crystals but never let your guard down though, as your competition is waiting for a chance to buy off your trusted men and steal the bounty from under your nose! The goal of the game is to get as many victory points as possible before the crystal mine collapses.
- Star Scrappers: Cave-in uses a unique game mechanics called “discard building”. With every action taken, players put their mercenaries into their discard piles. The order of the discarded cards matters because your top card is your Leader and gives you a special action at the beginning of your next turn. Beware, if your discard pile grows too much, it will draw the attention of other players who will not hesitate to steal cards from you – they’re just bribing your men!
