GTA V’s built-in cheat codes do not work in GTA Online. They are Story Mode features, so they cannot give an Online character money, weapons, or abilities. This guide explains the distinction, what happens when you use cheats in Story Mode, and how to treat claims about Online secrets or cheats.
Do GTA 5 cheats work in GTA Online?
No. Rockstar’s built-in GTA V cheat codes are for Story Mode, not GTA Online. Guides that list button combinations, phone numbers, or PC commands are describing single-player cheats; they should not be read as Online codes. PC Gamer and Vandal also distinguish Story Mode codes from Online play: PC Gamer’s GTA 5 cheat guide and Vandal’s PC cheat guide.

That distinction applies regardless of whether a Story Mode code is entered through a typed command, an in-game phone number, or a controller sequence. Input methods and exact codes vary by platform and edition, but none turns a built-in cheat into an Online feature.
Is there a GTA 5 money cheat?
No built-in money cheat is established for GTA V. Current cheat guides report that there is no official code that adds money, in Story Mode or GTA Online. A video or website promising an Online money code, or a third-party tool claiming to provide one, is not evidence of a Rockstar cheat code.

What happens when you use cheats in Story Mode?
Rockstar’s support guidance, last updated April 28, 2024, explains the main effects and limitations of Story Mode cheats in its saving and achievements support article.

- GRAND THEFT AUTO V: When a young street hustler, a retired bank robber and a terrifying psychopath land themselves in trouble, they must pull off a series of dangerous heists to survive in a city in which they can trust nobody, least of all each other.
- GRAND THEFT AUTO ONLINE: Discover an ever-evolving world of choices and ways to play as you climb the criminal ranks of Los Santos and Blaine County in the ultimate shared Online experience.
- THE CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE STARTER PACK: The Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack is the fastest way for new GTA Online players to jumpstart their criminal empires with the most exciting and popular content plus 1,000,000 dollars bonus cash to spend in GTA Online - all content valued at over GTA 10,000,000 dollares if purchased separately.
- Saving: You can save while cheats are enabled.
- Achievements: They are temporarily disabled while cheats are active.
- Turning a cheat off: Entering its code again will usually disable it, but Rockstar says this does not always work.
- Missions: Starting a mission with off-mission cheats enabled disables those cheats.
- Restricted areas: Some cheats may be unavailable in particular gameplay areas.
- Resetting: Reloading a save or rebooting clears cheats and restores the game’s previous state.
Rockstar’s exact guidance is: “Saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled but achievements are temporarily disabled.” It also says: “Starting a mission with off-mission cheat codes enabled will disable those cheats.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should you read GTA Online “secrets” lists?
“Secrets” can mean Easter eggs, hidden collectibles, mission details, or temporary event content. There is no comprehensive, current catalog of every GTA Online secret established here, so a list should be judged by its scope and evidence rather than treated as exhaustive. Check that an entry identifies the game mode, location, and any unlock conditions; a Story Mode Easter egg or collectible is not automatically present in Online.

Online content also changes through updates and dated events. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.73 notes describe the 2026 Kortz Center Heist update. The notes say players can purchase an Art Studio for an owned Mansion to access the heist, start preparations from the Art Studio board or by calling Raf De Angelis in Freemode, and complete it with one to four players. These are update-specific gameplay details, not cheat codes.
For time-limited activities or rewards, consult the dated Rockstar Newswire GTA Online listing. An announcement confirms what was posted at that time, not how long an event, reward, or membership offer will remain available.
