No—not as a fuel charge you collect to launch an Expedition. Bethesda removed Ultracite Battery Charge as a tracked player currency in its June 20, 2023 update, and Expeditions no longer require Fuel Quests. The quests remain optional Daily Quests, but a “Collect Vertibird Fuel” challenge label reported by players may be outdated or bugged; the available sources do not confirm whether it still appears or provide an official workaround.
What to do if you see “Collect Vertibird Fuel”
You cannot fill the old Ultracite Battery Charge meter to satisfy this wording. Bethesda’s update says the charge “is no longer a currency that is granted or tracked on the player.” It also removed the requirement to complete Fuel Quests before a team leader launches an Expedition. Players reported seeing a “Collect Vertibird Fuel” challenge in June 2024, including a version asking them to collect 100. A community post relayed that the challenge had reportedly been sent for review, but that is not an official fix or confirmation of current behavior. The available sources do not establish whether the challenge can still recur as of October 8, 2026, or identify an official workaround. If it appears in your Daily Challenges, treat it as potentially stale wording rather than evidence that a fuel meter can be filled.
Fuel Quests still exist, but they are optional
Bethesda retained Fuel Quests as optional Daily Quests after removing the battery requirement. The June 2023 notes say one Fuel Daily Quest is active per day. Completing it does not charge a tracked battery for Expedition access; Expeditions can be started without first doing the quest.

Why older guides describe collecting fuel
The original system worked differently. Bethesda’s September 13, 2022 update notes explain that, after completing “Responders Reborn,” players could visit Whitespring Refuge each day for three Refuge Daily Quests. Those quests awarded 25% or 50% Ultracite battery charge; completing all three filled the battery to 100%, allowing the player to lead an Expedition. The charge was consumed when an Expedition began.
That history explains why older walkthroughs may tell you to complete Refuge quests to fuel a Vertibird. The instructions were accurate for the earlier system, but Bethesda’s June 2023 update changed the requirement: the fuel quests became optional, and the charge stopped being tracked as a player currency.
