What do critics like about the game?
The strongest positive case in the visible excerpts is the feel of the vehicle combat: weapons, wreckage, zombie hordes, and rival racers combine into a distinctive kind of racing chaos.
#1 Best Overall
- The Outerhaven scored the game 80, describing it as a straightforward roguelite with distinct cars and weapons, zombie hordes, and rival racers.
- Game Informer scored it 78 and called the genre blend a novel twist.
- XboxEra scored it 75 and praised its mechanically satisfying destruction racing, weapons, zombies, and metal-crunching chaos.
Together, these excerpts point to a game whose appeal rests less on clean racing lines than on fighting through a hostile course. The same blend that makes the action stand out may not be what every Carmageddon fan wants from a revival.
What are the main criticisms?
Event variety may be limited
A visible PlayStation 5 review excerpt on Metacritic says the core gameplay is fun but criticizes the near-nonexistent event variety. That is a meaningful counterpoint to the praise for moment-to-moment combat: satisfying encounters do not necessarily mean races and objectives feel varied. The excerpt alone does not establish how broadly that criticism is shared.

It may not be the revival every longtime fan wants
Game Informer’s visible excerpt says the new genre mix may not be the full revival longtime fans wanted. That frames a question of fit, not simply quality: players drawn to Carmageddon’s destructive identity may welcome the combat, while those expecting a closer continuation of the older format may be less convinced.
Critic excerpts do not settle every question about progression
The game is presented by its storefronts as a roguelite, but the available review excerpts do not provide enough detail to establish a critical consensus on how well repeated runs or long-term progression work. The aggregate score should not be treated as proof that this part of the design succeeds or fails.

How does the roguelite structure work?
On the Steam listing, developer and publisher 34BigThings srl describes the game as a “brutal roguelite vehicular-combat” return, with adapting and upgrading as part of taking on post-apocalyptic zombie hordes. The PlayStation Store page describes the reset loop: a crash ends a run, a new driver begins the next Carmageddon, and long-term unlocks remain.
That restart-and-unlock structure is official product information, rather than a critic verdict. PlayStation’s January 6, 2026 gameplay preview used the heading “Every crash makes you stronger” to frame the progression loop, and introduced a racer starting out with a rusted car, scavenged fuel, and a makeshift weapon: PlayStation Blog preview.

Where is it available, and when did it release?
Steam lists February 6, 2026 as the release date and names 34BigThings srl as both developer and publisher. An official PlayStation Store product page is also available. These storefronts establish listings on Steam and PlayStation, but do not by themselves confirm a complete platform or regional-edition picture.
Steam also lists a separate digital Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Soundtrack. The cited listings do not establish a physical game edition, physical soundtrack, or other merchandise.

Is Carmageddon: Rogue Shift worth considering?
The critic snapshot suggests a qualified recommendation for players who want aggressive vehicle combat and are open to a roguelite structure: the visible positive reviews find the destruction mechanically satisfying and the genre combination distinctive. The main caution is that the fun of individual encounters may not be matched by event variety, and the new format may not satisfy every returning fan. The 69 score is a modest, mixed-to-average PC critic snapshot—not a guarantee of how the game will land for a particular player.
