Choose 128GB if you are comfortable keeping a smaller set of games installed and uninstalling or downloading titles as needed; choose 256GB if you want more of your library ready to play at once and the added cost is worthwhile. Neither capacity translates into a reliable fixed number of games: available space is lower than the listed capacity, and game sizes vary.
Quest 3S storage options and price
Meta lists the Quest 3S in 128GB and 256GB configurations. Meta describes the larger model as providing “additional app and game storage.” On its product page when retrieved, the listed US prices were $349.99 for 128GB and $449.99 for 256GB; prices and availability can change, so check the Meta Quest 3S product page before buying.
How much space is actually available?
The capacity printed on the box is not all free for games. Meta says, “Available storage less than shown due to existing software,” and notes that certain updates are required from time to time, including before first use. The product page does not quantify how much space software and updates use, so there is no sound basis here for subtracting a specific system-reserved amount from either model.
Why a game count is hard to predict
Quest game storage requirements vary substantially. For example, Meta’s store lists Into Black at 3.17 GB and Us Above Them at 187.63 MB; both listings include Quest 3S among supported platforms. These are examples of two individual titles, not a typical size or a representative sample. Store requirements can also change as listings and versions are updated.

Meta’s developer packaging rules help explain why package limits should not be mistaken for the final space a player needs. Its documentation says an APK must be under 1 GB and can be accompanied by expansion files of up to 4 GB each. Those are packaging constraints, not a complete installed-game size or a consumer capacity calculator. See Meta’s app packaging requirements.
Which Quest 3S capacity should you choose?
| Choose | It is a better fit if | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 128GB | You expect to keep a modest selection installed and do not mind uninstalling games or downloading them again when you want to play. | Less room for a large library to remain installed simultaneously; the cited Meta page listed it at $349.99 USD when retrieved. |
| 256GB | You want more games and apps installed and immediately available, and value avoiding some storage management. | It costs more; the cited Meta page listed it at $449.99 USD when retrieved. The extra capacity still does not guarantee a particular game count. |
Think about how you actually play: if you usually focus on a few titles at a time, rotating installations may make 128GB workable. If you switch among a broader set of games or prefer to keep more of your library on the headset, 256GB offers more flexibility. The choice is about your tolerance for managing space as much as the size of your library.
