Start with Medium or High graphics, turn Full Ray Tracing off, and set render scale near 67% (roughly DLSS or FSR Quality). Then use the built-in benchmark to tune settings for your GPU, resolution, and frame-rate goal. These are practical starting points, not guaranteed performance: much of the published game-specific testing dates to 2024, and results vary with hardware, drivers, and game version.

What are the best PC settings for Black Myth: Wukong?

There is no single best preset for every PC. Medium or High is a more useful starting point than the maximum Cinematic preset on many systems: Tom’s Hardware found the upper preset could sharply increase GPU load in its 2024 testing. Begin with Full Ray Tracing off, choose a render scale near 67%, and adjust one setting at a time while checking both frame rate and image clarity. Tom’s Hardware’s benchmark analysis is a historical test, not a promise for current hardware or patches.

Your situation Starting point What to adjust next
Older or budget PC at 1080p Medium or High; Full RT off; about 66–67% render scale If performance is still low, reduce demanding graphics settings gradually. Avoid dropping scale too far without checking sharpness; low render scales can look blurry at 1080p.
Mainstream PC at 1440p High, or Very High if performance allows; Full RT off; compare around 67% scale first Lower scale only if needed, and tune costly individual settings rather than assuming the top preset is worth its frame-rate cost.
High-end PC interested in ray tracing First establish a stable baseline with Full RT off Test Full RT at Medium before trying Very High; higher RT levels can reduce performance substantially.

These starting points reflect the trade-offs in the available independent testing and settings guidance; they are not settings validated across every GPU. Steam’s system requirements list a GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 580 8 GB as minimum graphics cards, and say the listed specifications were tested with DLSS, FSR, or XeSS enabled. They do not specify a promised resolution or frame rate. Steam’s listing also provides access to the standalone benchmark.

How should I set resolution scale for DLSS, FSR, or XeSS?

The in-game percentage scale controls the internal rendering resolution relative to your chosen output resolution. A lower percentage can improve performance, but it also reduces image detail. Approximate scale mappings reported by NVIDIA and PC Gamer are:

DLSS or FSR Performance 50%
DLSS Ultra Performance 33%
XeSS Ultra Quality 77%
XeSS Quality 67%
XeSS Balanced 59%
XeSS Performance 50%

These percentages describe approximate internal render scale, not a guaranteed frame-rate gain. Compare the picture at your actual output resolution: an aggressive scale can make fine detail look soft, especially at 1080p. For DLSS games generally, NVIDIA recommends Quality at 1080p and 1440p and Performance at 4K. That is NVIDIA’s vendor guidance, not a universal finding for every GPU, game patch, or visual preference. NVIDIA’s Black Myth: Wukong article gives its DLSS scale mappings; PC Gamer’s settings guide includes XeSS values as well.

Should I turn on Full Ray Tracing?

Leave Full Ray Tracing off while establishing your baseline. It is optional and demanding, and maximum RT significantly reduced performance in Tom’s Hardware’s 2024 tests. If you have enough headroom and want to try it, increase the RT level gradually, starting at Medium, and check performance in the scenes you actually play.

Results depend on the exact hardware and settings. For example, PC Gamer reported that on an RX 7800 XT at 1440p, using the Very High preset with upscaling and frame generation, Very High RT substantially cut average frame rate and pushed 1% lows into the 30 FPS range. That result applies to that tested configuration, not to all Radeon cards. NVIDIA’s separate 2024 report of an RTX 4070 SUPER exceeding 80 FPS at 2560×1440 with full RT and maxed settings was a vendor result under NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 test conditions; it is not an expectation for every system. Tom’s Hardware, PC Gamer, and NVIDIA used different hardware, methods, and settings, so their figures should not be treated as directly comparable.

How do I get more FPS in Black Myth: Wukong?

  1. Set a baseline. Choose your output resolution, Medium or High preset, Full RT off, and around 67% render scale. Note whether your chosen upscaler and frame generation are enabled.
  2. Run the built-in benchmark. Steam links to the standalone benchmark, and NVIDIA describes it as using game scenes and features. Tom’s Hardware reported a run of about 145 seconds in its 2024 testing and repeated tests, discarding the first run after launch. Your results may differ, and a benchmark cannot establish performance in every gameplay situation.
  3. Change one setting at a time. If performance is below your target, first try a lower-cost visual compromise such as a lower preset or selected graphics settings. If you lower render scale, inspect image clarity at your output resolution.
  4. Test frame generation separately. Generated frames can increase displayed frame rate and perceived smoothness, but are not a substitute for a reasonable base frame rate. PC Gamer observed artifacts when frame generation was combined with strong motion blur; compare with motion blur off or set weak.
  5. Confirm in gameplay. Play representative areas after benchmarking. Record the game build and driver along with your settings so later comparisons remain meaningful.

For a useful comparison, keep track of output resolution, GPU and VRAM, preset, render-scale percentage and upscaler, Full RT level, frame-generation state, average frame rate, and 1% low where available. Much of the cited game-specific performance evidence comes from launch-period testing in 2024; current patch- and driver-specific performance across GPUs is not established here.

Do you need a GPU upgrade?

Only consider an upgrade after checking whether your current card can meet your chosen resolution and frame-rate goal with reasonable compromises to scale, preset, and RT. The launch-era RTX 40-series results in NVIDIA’s material do not establish what card is the best buy in 2026, or current prices and stock. Existing hardware, output resolution, desired frame rate, and current market conditions all matter.
