Yes, if portability matters more to you than precise placement or the strongest performance. The Nintendo Switch edition includes the After Dark and Snowfall expansions, but a 2018 review reported awkward fine-grained controls and slowdowns in larger cities. It is a portable way to play a substantial city-building simulation—not a safe choice if you expect every later add-on or the smoothest experience.
What the Switch edition includes
When Paradox Interactive announced the Nintendo Switch edition on September 13, 2018, it confirmed that the game included After Dark and Snowfall. The announcement also described a Switch-designed interface, additional tutorials, HD Rumble and Pro Controller support. Paradox’s launch announcement outlines the core city-building systems: zoning and districts, transport, public services, utilities, policies and city finances.

- After Dark: Adds a day-and-night cycle and leisure and tourism specializations.
- Snowfall: Adds winter maps and the extra demands of heating and snow clearance. Paradox also describes trams and expanded public transit on its Snowfall page.
Those are the expansions confirmed as included with the Switch edition. Do not assume that it also includes, or can use, every later expansion or add-on.
How it compares with other platforms
| What matters | What the Switch edition offers | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Portability | Play the city-building simulation on a handheld system. | The portability advantage is the clearest reason to choose Switch. |
| Included expansions | After Dark and Snowfall are included, according to Paradox’s launch announcement. | This does not establish that later add-ons are included. |
| Controls | A Switch-designed interface, controller support and HD Rumble were announced. | Nintendo Life’s 2018 review said precise placement, particularly roads and underground pipes, could be awkward. |
| Performance in large cities | No current performance result is established by the cited sources. | Nintendo Life’s 2018 review reported slowdowns as cities grew; this is a dated review observation, not a current benchmark. |
| Later DLC | The sources confirm the two included expansions. | Other-platform add-on listings do not prove Switch compatibility or availability. |
Controls and performance: the main trade-offs
Nintendo Life’s 2018 review praised the effort to adapt menus for controller navigation, but found precise placement—especially roads and underground pipes—awkward. That matters because laying out a city is constant, hands-on work: if you want exact road placement or find controller-based construction frustrating, the Switch version may not suit you.

The same review criticized tutorial support and reported that performance worsened as cities grew, with frame rates falling into the low 20s in some larger-city situations. The reviewer rated the game 5/10 and preferred playing it elsewhere. These are that reviewer’s findings from 2018; they should not be read as a fresh test or a guarantee of how the game performs today. The available sources do not establish whether a later update changed those results.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which DLC is available on Switch?
The confirmed answer is limited: After Dark and Snowfall are included. Paradox’s current pages for Sunset Harbor and Snowfall list platforms but omit Switch. Meanwhile, the publisher’s general buy page lists Nintendo Switch alongside add-ons, but that broad listing does not establish that each add-on works with the Switch edition. Its Cities: Skylines Collection page likewise is not proof that all listed components are Switch-compatible.
