When your PlayStation Plus subscription expires, games you claimed as monthly games and titles you accessed through a subscription catalog are no longer playable through that membership. Canceling renewal does not cut access off immediately: benefits continue until the paid period ends. Games you bought at a PS Plus discount and packs or avatars you redeemed are different—they remain yours.
What happens to each kind of PlayStation Plus game?
| Content | After membership expires |
|---|---|
| Monthly games claimed during the offer period | Unavailable to play until you have an active membership again. Adding a game to your library does not turn it into a permanent purchase. PlayStation’s US games page describes monthly games as an Essential benefit; its US overview says access lasts as long as membership remains active. PlayStation Plus overview |
| Game Catalog or Classics Catalog games | Access through the catalog ends when membership expires. A title can also leave its catalog before your membership ends, so catalog access is not a permanent entitlement. PlayStation announces catalog end dates on its US overview. |
| Games purchased at a PS Plus discount | Remain yours as a separate purchase; expiry does not remove the purchased game. PlayStation’s US overview |
| Redeemed packs and avatars | Remain yours after membership ends. PlayStation’s US overview |
When does access stop if you cancel?
Canceling turns off renewal; it does not end the current paid period. Your PS Plus benefits continue until that period expires, and access changes then. PlayStation Support’s cancellation guidance says that once a subscription ends, members lose access to benefits including monthly games, online storage and online multiplayer. The linked instructions are for Ireland; check your local PlayStation terms if your account is in another territory: How to cancel PlayStation Plus.
What about DLC and add-ons?
DLC or add-ons tied to a subscription-provided base game can also become inaccessible if your membership expires or that base game leaves the service. If you resubscribe or buy the base game, previously purchased add-ons can be used again, subject to the game and add-on being compatible.
Which subscription tier includes catalog games?
On PlayStation’s US descriptions, Essential includes monthly games; Extra includes Essential benefits and the Game Catalog; Premium includes Essential and Extra benefits, the Classics Catalog, streaming and game trials. Catalog availability depends on the tier, title and time. Check the current US games catalog and your local plan details, since the cited pages do not establish that terms are identical in every territory.

Do online storage and multiplayer continue?
No. PlayStation lists online storage and online multiplayer among the benefits lost when membership ends. Its US support page lists 100 GB of cloud storage for each of the three membership plans, but does not specify how long cloud saves are retained after expiry; do not assume that the storage allowance describes a post-expiry retention period.
