Cloud is more approachable in FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles: director Kazutoyo Maehiro says his stats were adjusted and he now joins with the Materia Blade, the weapon tied to his signature abilities. That addresses the main hurdles that made him difficult to use in the original release, though it does not establish that he is overpowered or stronger than other characters.
What changed for Cloud?
In the original Final Fantasy Tactics, Cloud arrived very late, at level one, and without the Materia Blade. Those drawbacks meant players had little time to develop him and needed to obtain the weapon associated with his abilities before he could use them as intended.
Maehiro described a more ready-to-use Cloud in The Ivalice Chronicles: his stats have been adjusted, and he joins equipped with the Materia Blade. The director also said his recruitment timing is closer to the version in the War of the Lions PSP release. GamesRadar+ reported Maehiro’s explanation.
Does that make Cloud good now?
It makes him easier to put to work: he has adjusted stats and the key weapon as soon as he joins, rather than starting at level one without it. But no numeric stat breakdown or measured comparison has been published in the cited reporting. There is not enough evidence to call him objectively overpowered, rank him against another unit, or quantify how much stronger he is.

Which version includes the changes?
The changes described here apply to the Enhanced version of The Ivalice Chronicles. Square Enix also includes a Classic version intended to preserve the original experience, so do not assume the Cloud adjustments carry over to that mode. The game is an enhanced edition with improved graphics, fully voiced dialogue and refined gameplay; its tactical battles revolve around turn order, terrain, jobs and abilities. Square Enix’s official game page describes more than 20 jobs and hundreds of abilities.
How Cloud’s adjustment fits the wider update
Cloud’s improved readiness is one character-specific change within a broader set of efforts to make the game more approachable. In a developer interview, Square Enix discussed battle fast-forward, difficulty options and interface changes intended to reduce barriers for new players.
