No. A pre-order was not required to play Battlefield 6’s public Open Beta, and EA said no code was needed for either public weekend. The beta ran in August 2025 and has ended. Early access was separate and had specific eligibility routes.
Public beta access did not require a pre-order or code
Electronic Arts’ official Battlefield 6 Open Beta announcement, published July 31, 2025, described both public weekends as “No code needed, available to anyone.” That means the public beta was open without buying or pre-ordering the full game.

The public beta took place over two weekends in August 2025. EA’s detailed schedule listed these opening and closing times:

Early access was different from the public weekends
EA listed early access as starting August 7, 2025, at 08:00 UTC. It was available through two routes—not through a required pre-order:
- Players who had registered for Battlefield Labs before July 31, 2025, could sign in using the EA Account they registered with.
- Other players could unlock early access by watching selected creators during the Battlefield 6 reveal streams on Twitch on July 31, 2025.

What players needed to set up
For the beta, EA advised linking an EA Account with the account for the platform being used. The supported platforms were PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, or the EA app. On PC, Secure Boot was required to play the Open Beta, according to EA’s announcement.

EA’s Battlefield 6 beta-code help article explains that redeeming an early-access key might display a “Base game required” message. EA says this message is intended to ensure the player downloads the Battlefield 6 Open Beta on their platform when it becomes available. It does not show that buying the full game was required for public beta access.
