Yes. Path of Exile 2 supports online multiplayer and couch co-op. For local play, the official FAQ describes a single-account setup where the second player can create a character on that account; on PC, Grinding Gear Games says to have two controllers set up. GGG has also announced cross-play and cross-progression on supported platforms, with an Early Access key limitation for players switching platforms.
What kinds of co-op does Path of Exile 2 have?
| How you want to play | What is supported | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Online with friends | Online multiplayer; the PlayStation Store currently lists six online players. | The six-player figure is from PlayStation’s PS5 listing, not a stated universal limit for every platform or a combined local-and-online party. |
| In the same room | Couch co-op on a single account. | The second player can create a character on that account. |
| Couch co-op on PC | Supported, according to GGG support. | Two controllers must be set up. |
| Local play using two separate accounts | Not established by the official information cited here. | GGG’s FAQ confirms the single-account option; it does not confirm current two-account couch co-op. |
How does couch co-op work?
GGG’s Early Access FAQ, published November 21, 2024, says couch co-op is available on a single account and that the second player can create a character on that account. That is the clearly documented local-play route; the FAQ does not establish that two separate accounts can join the same local session.

For PC, GGG support specifically confirms couch co-op with two controllers set up. The support reply does not name a particular controller model, so check that your controllers are compatible with your PC and game setup rather than relying on a specific model recommendation. GGG’s console announcement also discusses couch co-op, but does not define the screen layout. It is more precise to call this couch co-op than to assume a particular split-screen arrangement.
Can you play online, and how many players?
Online co-op is supported. The PlayStation Store’s PS5 listing, accessed October 8, 2026, states “6 online players.” Treat that as the player count listed for the PlayStation version; it does not by itself establish the maximum for other platforms or how local players combine with online players.

Does Path of Exile 2 support cross-play and cross-progression?
GGG announced full cross-play and cross-progression on supported platforms in its Path of Exile 2 console announcement. This is a supported-platform feature, not a guarantee that every store entitlement, cosmetic, or local account detail transfers identically between platforms.
There is a separate restriction for Early Access: a GGG support response says Early Access keys do not transfer between platforms. If you want to play during Early Access on more than one platform, the response says you need a key for each platform. This qualification applies to Early Access access, not necessarily to full-release purchase terms. See GGG Support’s cross-play and Early Access key response, dated January 4, 2025.
Do you need to share an account password for couch co-op?
No. The single-account couch co-op feature does not mean players should exchange login details. GGG Support says account sharing is not permitted and that account credentials must not be given to another person; its explanation allows couch co-op when the account owner logs in and remains the only person who knows the credentials. Read GGG Support’s account-sharing clarification, dated January 13, 2025.
