Can I use a Steam gift card from another country?
Not necessarily. Steam says Wallet Code redemption is limited to the currency of the recipient’s Steam Wallet. A card bought in one country therefore should not be assumed to work for an account using a different wallet currency. Steam also says existing physical cards remain usable subject to local laws, but that is not a guarantee that every card works in every country. Steam Wallet

- Check the recipient’s Steam Wallet currency.
- Check the specific card’s currency and country terms before purchase.
- Do not rely on the country where a card was purchased as proof it will redeem for the recipient.
Can I send a Steam gift card to someone in another country?
Steam continues to offer digital Steam Gift Cards, but eligibility and availability should be checked for the specific transaction and recipient. If the recipient wants flexible Steam funds, confirm that the gift card option is available and suitable for their wallet currency before sending it. Steam Wallet
Physical cards are being phased out
Steam says it is ending retail sales of physical gift cards and expects retailers to be out of stock by the end of 2026. Retailer inventory varies. Steam’s stated position is that existing physical cards remain usable subject to local laws, and that digital gift cards continue to be offered. Steam Wallet

Steam gift card versus Steam game gift
A gift card adds funds to the recipient’s Steam Wallet; a game gift is a particular game sent from one Steam account to another. These have different restrictions. Steam displays the countries where a game gift can be redeemed during purchase and in the gift description, and those lists can change. Check the live listing for the specific game. Will a gift card change the recipient’s Steam country?
No. A Wallet Code adds funds; it does not change the account’s store country. Steam says the store country must match where the user currently resides, and changing it after a move requires a purchase using a local payment method. Should I use a VPN or proxy if a gift is blocked?
No. Steam prohibits using location disguise to bypass restrictions on region-restricted game gifts, and says doing so may lead to account restrictions. Steam also says purchases through anonymous proxies are declined and attempts to bypass regional pricing or content restrictions are forbidden. If a card or game gift is incompatible, choose a permitted gift option instead of trying to evade the restriction.
