Neither choice is safe: the guide-reported outcome is that the companion Rook sends to lead the second team dies. Choosing Davrin also means Assan dies. Pick the loss you are more willing to accept, taking into account your attachment to each character and the party you want available for the finale.
What happens when Harding or Davrin leads?
At the start of Isle of the Gods, after the point-of-no-return sequence, Harding and Davrin volunteer to lead the second team while Rook leads the first. The chosen leader leaves the playable party for the rest of the quest sequence and cannot be selected for The Last Gambit. Gamer Guides describes the leader’s loss, while Game8’s choice guide reports the deaths in more detail.
- Send Harding: Harding dies, according to the guides.
- Send Davrin: Davrin and Assan die, according to the guides.
These are guide-reported consequences, not an official EA outcome description. The sources do not identify a way to save the selected leader or show that either choice unlocks a better ending.
How to choose
Consider your romance or favorite companion
EA lists both Harding and Davrin as romanceable companions. If one is Rook’s partner or the character you most want with you, sending the other may better suit your preferences. The available guides do not establish that romance changes the outcome or saves the chosen leader.

Think about your remaining party
The selected companion will not be available for the rest of this quest sequence, including The Last Gambit. There is no source-backed universally optimal choice for combat: decide which companion’s abilities you rely on and which remaining party combinations you would rather use.
Weigh Assan’s fate
If losing Assan matters to you, that is a specific reason to avoid sending Davrin, whose route the guide reports ends with both Davrin and Assan dying. Sending Harding instead carries Harding’s reported death.

Finish optional content before proceeding
The choice follows a point-of-no-return warning.
