It launched on September 10, 2025, as Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra. As of Bandai Namco’s September 8, 2026 update, the publisher planned a major overhaul for the end of 2026—but had not announced a specific date. The planned redesign changes the rules and camera perspective, so its new features should not be mistaken for the live game before the update arrives.
What happened to Dragon Ball Project: Multi?
Project: Multi was the name used during the game’s 2024 beta period. Bandai Namco launched the game as DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA on September 10, 2025. The official site lists it as free to download, with some paid items, and lists mobile, PC, and console versions.
Bandai Namco reported more than 3 million preregistrations ahead of launch and said it gave Son Goku (Mini) to all users to mark the milestone. That figure is the publisher’s announcement, not an independent count.
What was Project: Multi’s beta?
The Dragon Ball Official Site described the beta as a 4-versus-4 action game: “Defeat the enemy team in a 4 versus 4 clash and capture their Dragon Ball!” The open beta ran from August 20, 2024, at 06:00 UTC through September 3, 2024, at 05:59 UTC.

It was available in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Germany and South Korea were limited to the App Store and Google Play; Steam participants had to request access. The beta announcement listed App Store, Google Play, and Steam, and described the release as planned for 2025 and free to download. Those were beta-era plans, not a complete statement of the final release lineup.
What platforms is Gekishin Squadra on?
The game’s official site lists the App Store, Google Play, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. In its September 8, 2026 overhaul Q&A, Bandai Namco said platform support would remain on Steam, PS4 and PS5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS after the planned overhaul.
What is changing in the planned overhaul?
Bandai Namco’s September 8, 2026 Q&A says the overhaul is planned for the end of 2026, but the team had not announced a specific release date. These are announced plans, not confirmation that the redesigned rules are already live.
| Element | Existing game as described by Bandai Namco | Announced overhaul plan |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Current perspective | Third-person only |
| Victory objective | Existing ruleset | Collect all seven Dragon Balls |
| Team roles | Damage, Tank, and Technical | Two range-oriented roles: close-range and long-range, with two heroes from each role on a team |
| Platforms | Steam, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS | Bandai Namco says support will remain on those platforms |
| Timing | Current ruleset | Planned for the end of 2026; exact date not announced as of September 8, 2026 |
The Q&A also describes plans for more frequent battles and respawns, adjustments involving hero HP, Super Attack damage, and healing, and the possibility of taking a Dragon Ball from the hero carrying it by defeating them. Bandai Namco says heroes will get new skill sets, alongside changes to progression, visuals, controls, and matchmaking.

Why is Bandai Namco overhauling the game?
Bandai Namco said it believed the existing structure made it difficult to maintain a healthy player population. In an August 30, 2026 development letter, the company said its aim was to make Dragon Ball team battles enjoyable “anytime, anywhere, with anyone.” Those statements explain the publisher’s stated motivation; they are not independent findings about player numbers or retention.
The publisher also stated in its September 8 Q&A: “We do not have plans to cancel or reverse the overhaul.” The end-of-2026 timing remains a plan rather than a dated release commitment.
Is Project: Multi still a MOBA?
The game began with MOBA-style team-battle framing: the beta was a 4v4 contest built around defeating the opposing team and capturing a Dragon Ball. But the announced overhaul replaces the existing ruleset with a third-person perspective and a collection objective. Since Bandai Namco had not released that overhaul as of its September 8, 2026 Q&A, it is more precise to distinguish the game’s beta-era identity and current rules from the redesign it has announced.
