What did Tomohiko Sho say about Dynasty Warriors: Origins?
Sho described Origins as a deliberate change in design and gameplay direction from Dynasty Warriors 9. In the Gamekult interview published November 23, 2024, he discussed bringing his prior experience as a director to his first producer role on a Dynasty Warriors title. He also said the game was intended to appeal to players from varied backgrounds around the world.
Gamekult framed its headline around the possibility that Origins could provide a model for the series’ next decade. That was the publication’s framing of Sho’s discussion, not a confirmed Koei Tecmo roadmap or a promise about future games.

How does Origins express that change?
Origins retells part of the Three Kingdoms story through a nameless hero. The story begins around the Yellow Turban Rebellion and advances toward the Battle of Chibi. Rather than focusing only on fighting through large groups of enemies, the game also emphasizes battlefield coordination: players can issue real-time tactical commands, while weapon-specific Arts and defensive actions such as blocking, parrying, and dodging shape individual encounters.
Those features help explain the shift Sho discussed: the game combines the series’ large-scale battles with more deliberate decisions about positioning, tactics, and combat. Koei Tecmo’s description of the game and Sho’s interview provide the context; they are not independent evaluations of how the mechanics perform.

What did Sho say about the battlefield experience?
In Koei Tecmo’s release announcement on January 17, 2025, Sho described the game in promotional terms: “This is the most intense, most exhilarating gameplay in DYNASTY WARRIORS franchise history. The sense of realism on the battlefield has never been greater.” That is the producer’s statement in a publisher announcement, not an independent assessment.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins launched on January 17, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam. It is a released game, rather than an upcoming title. Koei Tecmo also confirmed physical game editions and a Treasure Box containing a poster, soundtrack, and book; present-day price, stock, and regional availability are not established here.
