Add them through the game’s Friends list. If the ID search works but parties still fail, check platform service status and your connection before changing network settings.
First, identify where the failure happens
Friend search, sending an invite, and joining a party are separate steps. Note which one fails, whether you and your friend are on the same platform, and whether one or both players are affected. That helps distinguish an ID or cross-play issue from a broader connection or platform-service problem.
- Can’t find the friend: check cross-play and the exact Dead by Daylight ID.
- Friend is listed, but invites or joining fail: check platform service status and both players’ connections.
- Other online features also fail: treat it as a possible platform or network issue, not just a friend-list problem.
How to add a friend in Dead by Daylight on PC
- Ask your friend for their complete Dead by Daylight ID. It consists of their username followed by four unique identifying characters; a display name alone may not be enough to find the right player.
- In Dead by Daylight, open the Friends list and select the add-friend icon.
- Search for the complete ID, then select Invite A Friend.
- Your friend can respond the next time they log into the game.
These are Behaviour Interactive’s documented in-game steps in its [friend-add instructions], published August 13, 2020. For a cross-platform friend, use this in-game ID flow rather than relying on a platform-level friends list.
If the ID search returns no result
- Check the spelling and all four identifying characters with your friend.
- Confirm cross-play is enabled on both players’ sides.
- Try again after both players have logged into the game.
Check cross-play on both sides
Behaviour’s [cross-play article] lists Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games on PC, alongside PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. The article was published August 13, 2020; platform availability and interface details can change, so consult the current official support information if your platform is not covered.

If either player has cross-play disabled, a cross-platform friend search or party may not work as expected. Check the game’s current cross-play setting on both accounts before moving on to network troubleshooting.
If you can add the friend but can’t invite or join
Check whether the issue affects only Dead by Daylight or whether the platform’s other online services are also unavailable. Behaviour’s [Error 107 guidance], published September 25, 2025, describes the error as occurring after a network disconnection and reconnection. It says the cause may involve your connection or router, or platform online services.

Use the status page for the platform you play on—such as Steam, Epic Games Services, or Microsoft—and check your friend’s platform as well. Availability changes over time, so verify status when the problem occurs rather than assuming a service is down.
Try the basic connection checks
- Test a wired connection if you are on Wi-Fi. Behaviour’s [Network Troubleshooting guide], published January 21, 2022, says: “If you are using a wireless connection, try using a wired connection as this is typically more stable.” This can help test connection stability; it is not a confirmed fix for a missing friend search or a game-side invite issue.
- Check your internet service. Run a speed test and ask your ISP whether your upload and download speeds match your plan. Behaviour’s guide does not specify a minimum speed.
- Close other applications. The guide also suggests trying to launch the game as administrator and from the platform library.
- Install available updates. Check Windows, Dead by Daylight, your platform client, and relevant drivers.
- Restart your modem and router. Shut down connected devices, unplug the modem and router for at least 15 seconds, reconnect the modem first, wait one to two minutes, then power on the router.
Refresh Windows network settings
If the basic checks do not help, Behaviour’s guide provides these commands. Enter them in Command Prompt as written, then restart the computer:

These are general connection checks, not proof that a friend-invite failure is caused by Windows networking.
Review NAT, firewall, and proxy settings
Behaviour’s [NAT FAQ], published April 23, 2021, explains that Moderate/Type 2 and Strict/Type 3 NAT can limit which peer devices connect. It provides PC-specific guidance for Steam and Epic Games Store. NAT is one possible connectivity factor; the FAQ does not establish it as the reason a particular friend cannot be found or invited.

Also check whether Windows Firewall or a firewall on a shared network is blocking the game. Behaviour’s Error 107 article links to Windows Firewall steps for allowing Dead by Daylight and suggests checking proxies as a diagnostic measure. Change firewall or proxy settings only when you can restore the prior configuration; do not open arbitrary router ports based on a generic fix.

Behaviour’s [game-file verification guide], published January 18, 2022, says verification can occasionally remedy in-game issues. It is a general troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for friend search or invitations.

- Steam: Library > right-click Dead by Daylight > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic Games: Library > select the game’s three-dot menu > Verify.
- Microsoft Store via the Xbox app for Windows: My Library > Dead by Daylight > More options > Manage > Files > Verify and repair.
Are other players reporting the same problem?
Behaviour’s player bug-report site shows user-submitted reports dated March 26, June 21, and July 6, 2026, describing problems joining friends, adding cross-platform friends, or using party invitations and join requests. The visible reports are marked duplicate. They show that players have reported similar symptoms, but do not confirm a widespread current defect, a root cause, or a validated workaround. An individual report mentioning an external Steam invite is an anecdote, not an official or reliable fix.
