Yes—but the permanent return was Fortnite OG, a separate experience built around the Chapter 1 map, not a replacement for Fortnite’s main Battle Royale map. Leakers made the claim on November 6, 2024; Epic confirmed six days later that Fortnite OG would launch on December 6 and be “always on, every day.”
What the November 2024 leak claimed
On November 6, 2024, GameSpot reported that Fortnite leakers ShiinaBR and HypeX said Fortnite OG would return permanently in December. Their reported plan was for the first ten Chapter 1 seasons to rotate monthly, with Battle Royale and Zero Build available. GameSpot noted that Epic had not confirmed those details at the time. GameSpot’s November 6 report is evidence of what the leakers claimed, not an official Epic schedule.
When Epic confirmed Fortnite OG’s return
On November 12, Epic confirmed the return through the official Fortnite account. As reproduced by GameSpot, the post said, “OG is coming BACK and is here to stay,” and set the return for December 6. Epic’s detailed announcement followed on December 5, the day before launch, describing Fortnite OG as “always on, every day.” GameSpot’s confirmation coverage reproduces the official account’s announcement; Epic’s December 5 announcement gives the launch details.
Epic said OG would revisit the original map, loot and Chapter 1 seasons. The experience began with Chapter 1 Season 1 and was to progress through the original seasons. The November leak’s specific monthly schedule was not the same as Epic’s launch announcement, which confirmed the seasonal progression but did not state that exact rotation timetable.

What “OG” meant in practice
The Chapter 1 map and seasonal content
Fortnite OG brought back the original 2017 map and began with a Chapter 1 Season 1 loot pool, with items added as the season progressed. It was a mode centered on classic Fortnite content, rather than a change to the main Battle Royale map.
Epic’s later post about OG Season 7 documents that the experience continued with seasonal map and loot changes. It describes the return of locations including Polar Peak, Frosty Flights and Happy Hamlet, alongside season-specific weapons and updates. Epic’s OG Season 7 post shows how the map and content changed as OG seasons advanced.

Classic content with modern mechanics
OG was not an untouched copy of Fortnite as it played in 2017. Epic retained modern quality-of-life features and said building mechanics would match contemporary Battle Royale. The launch announcement listed sprinting, sliding, mantling, door bashing and moving while healing. Zero Build also included Ziplines and Ascenders to help players reach difficult locations.
Launch modes and the OG Pass
At launch, Epic listed Solos and Squads, as well as Zero Build. The initial OG Pass had 45 tiers and could be completed until January 31, 2025, at 2 AM ET. That deadline was part of the original launch offer; it is not a current availability date.

Leak versus confirmed details
| Detail | What was reported or confirmed |
|---|---|
| Permanent return | Leakers reported it on November 6, 2024; Epic confirmed on November 12 that OG was “here to stay” and said on December 5 it would be “always on, every day.” |
| Launch date | Epic set December 6, 2024. |
| Chapter 1 seasons | Epic confirmed a return through the original Chapter 1 seasons. The exact claim that the first ten seasons would rotate monthly came from the leak report, not Epic’s launch announcement. |
| Battle Royale and Zero Build | The leak report named both. Epic’s launch announcement listed Solos and Squads and Zero Build. |
| Map and loot | Epic confirmed the original map and a Chapter 1 Season 1 starting loot pool that would gain items as the season progressed. Its later Season 7 post documents subsequent map and loot changes. |
Was the main Fortnite map replaced?
No. Fortnite OG was an additional experience alongside the then-current Fortnite offering, not a permanent replacement of the main Battle Royale map. “Permanent” referred to OG being available as an ongoing option; the OG experience itself could still advance through Chapter 1 seasons and change its map and loot accordingly.
