Groove Layer has 30 listed Banandium Gems in Donkey Kong Bananza. This checklist gives the location and the key action for each one; several are gated by story progress, quests, or a challenge. Nintendo Life’s guide includes maps and illustrations if you need visual bearings: Groove Layer Banandium Gems.
All 30 Groove Layer Banandium Gem locations
The numbered names below follow Nintendo Life’s location guide. “Banana” and “Banandium Gem” refer to the collectible; Nintendo’s official overview calls DK’s familiar golden bananas Banandium Gems.
- The Secret in Solitary: Restore the bass track, then return to Jail Hall and ask the Constructone to build a Swap Harp. Break through the back wall of the old cell, switch the material, and bounce on the rubber bananas to reach the ceiling hang-frame.
- Deep under Detention: In the room beneath Disco Hall, break the gold floor below the Barrel Cannon. Follow the black-sand route and avoid the bombs.
- Banana behind Bars: Take explosive rock from the top cell and use it to blow open the bars of a first-floor cell.
- A Square-Shaped Secret: In Jail Hall, use the Swap Harp to turn the cube-shaped rubber Fractone into gold, then break through it.
- Smash and Receive: Look behind a stone tablet in one of the first-layer Jail Hall cells.
- Gettin’ Down in the Groove Layer!: Leave the jail and follow the path to Disco Hall.
- Over the Disco: The gem is inside the disco ball above the checkpoint. Chunk Jump from the edge of the room, roll in mid-air, and punch upward to break the ball.
- Bouncy Brainteaser: Hit the harp in Disco Hall to turn everything gold. Break the bars on the upper cell and switch the materials back to rubber to get inside. Climb the gold tower, tear off a piece, and leave it beside the tower. Switch to rubber and use the piece and tower to reach the ceiling gem.
- A Complete Fossil Collection: Collect every Fossil in the game and spend them in each layer’s Style Shop. Then talk to Collectone in the Fossil Museum.
- Destined for the Top: After restoring the bass track, speak to the Constructone in Disco Hall to install a harp. Turn the nearby rubber cell gold to unlock Quest for the Top Challenge Ruins, then follow the main path to the gem.
- Liftoff to the Top: Finish the Challenge Course.
- A Groovy Disco-very: Take mud from the top layer and place it behind the Barrel Cannon. Use the harp to change it into Liftoff Ore, ride it to the disco ball, and punch through the ball.
- Cranky’s Groove Rant: Enter Disco Hall’s VIP Room by throwing a chunk at the Fractone before it turns to steel. Speak to Cranky Kong.
- Banana Chandelier: Use the Swap Harp to turn the VIP Room Fractone into rubber, then bounce up to the ceiling.
- Groove Smashin’ Stats: Destroy 3,000 m of Concrete in Groove Layer, then speak to Smashintone in Disco Hall.
- Groovin’ Once Again: After completing the main story, speak to the mission Fractone near the main hall to start the Groovetone quest. Reunite the band, pay Grumpy 2,000 Gold to repair the speaker, then return to the original Fractone for the reward.
- Disco-Ball Destruction: Free the Fractone from jail, then speak with its brother in the VIP Room to open the cannon into the disco ball.
- Behind the Disco’s Wall: Find the secret room off Disco Hall. Punch through the wall where white arrows appear on the floor, to the left of the Beat Source.
- The Funky Beat is Back: Remove the Void Terravoider from the Beat Room.
- Rising Bass Line: Look on the ceiling in the bass corridor.
- Beat the Concrete: Use a Gold chunk to destroy the thick Concrete pillar in the bass tunnel.
- The Groovy Bass is Back: Remove the Terravoider from the Bass Room.
- Lofty Melody: The gem is behind a Wallopoid in the Melody corridor. Walk on the ground to summon gold, then use the Swap Harp to turn it into rubber and bounce up.
- A Gift from a Fan: Look in the Melody tunnel beneath an arrow Fractone that says “Hey, DJ! Hey!”
- The Catchy Melody is Back: Remove the Terravoider from the Melody Room.
- Battle: Opposite Obliteration: Break the gold covering the Crockoid x2 Battle Ruins in the room beneath Disco Hall. If necessary, switch the covering from rubber to gold first.
- Battle: Cliff-Wall Ambush: Break the floor in Disco Hall and speak to the Constructone to open the Wallopoid x4 Battle Ruins.
- A Gift from Poppy: Once the Groovetone disco is running again, speak to Poppy in the corner.
- Dig the Groovy Nightlife: Speak to the rubber Fractone on the dance floor, then find his four shy friends.
- Groove Chip Exchange: Exchange banana chips at Disco Hall’s Chip Exchange.
What to check if a Groove Layer banana is missing
Confirm your story progress
Some gems do not become available until you finish Groove Layer’s main mission. “Groovin’ Once Again” is specifically a post-main-story reward. Others require restoring the bass track, opening a room, completing the Challenge Course, or progressing a quest, so a missing entry may be locked rather than overlooked.
Use the game’s search tools
- Hand Slap sonar: Nintendo says sonar can reveal the outline of a Banandium Gem or treasure chest. A chest may contain a map to gems or Fossils.
- Whistle: Hold L to make DK and Pauline whistle; drifting notes point toward story quests or mapped treasure.
- Map stats: Press Y on the map to see how many Banandium Gems and Fossils you have found.
Nintendo’s general discovery guidance is available in Explore the world and its Donkey Kong’s powerful mitts tips. These tools can help locate hidden items, while the named checklist above identifies the Groove Layer tasks.
