The headline Halo announcement in 2025 was Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign planned for 2026. It is announced for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5, with day-one availability on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Separately, Halo Infinite received seasonal updates, and Halo Championship Series (HCS) published a competitive roadmap; neither was part of the remake announcement.
What was the main Halo announcement in 2025?
Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the original campaign from the 2001 game Halo: Combat Evolved. The project is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and is planned for 2026. Xbox Wire lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and PlayStation 5 as platforms, alongside Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere support. The announcement also says it will be available on day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. These are announced plans, not a guarantee that dates or availability cannot change. What is being remade—and what is new?
The campaign’s core story and setting return, but Halo Studios says the game has been rebuilt with 4K visuals, updated animations, remastered music and re-recorded voice lines. It also adds familiar weapons and vehicles from later Halo games, as well as three new bonus campaign missions. The studio says it aims to preserve the original’s atmosphere and emotional impact while improving pacing and clarity.
Executive Producer Damon Conn described the remake as an entry point for new players: “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo,” he says. “Starting here means people that have never played the game before will be able to understand the story from the very beginning, and that can help us chart a course forward with new Halo stories.”

What co-op does it support?
The announced options are two-player local split screen on console and online co-op for up to four players across Xbox, PC and PlayStation 5. The announcement does not specify every cross-play configuration, so it should not be read as a detailed promise about which combinations of platforms can join a session.

The comparison describes what the 2025 announcement says about the remake; it is not a claim that every platform or feature of the original is identical across editions.
Why is Halo Studios using Unreal Engine 5?
The remake follows a public technology shift Halo Studios introduced in 2024. In its “A New Dawn” post, the studio said future Halo development was moving to Unreal Engine 5 and presented Project Foundry as research into what it takes to build Halo in that engine, as well as a training tool for future development. The post explicitly described Foundry as neither a game nor a tech demo.
Studio Head Pierre Hintze characterized the change as a new chapter for the franchise: “If you really break Halo down, there have been two very distinct chapters. Chapter 1 – Bungie. Chapter 2 – 343 Industries. Now, I think we have an audience which is hungry for more. So we’re not just going to try improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games. Halo Infinite Spring Update
Halo Support’s February 4, 2025 patch notes cover the Frontlines Operation and a revised three-Operation pass cycle. The update also included the Fuel Rod SPNKr, Assault modes, the Origin Forge map, Ranked Squad Battle, ranked gameplay adjustments, Forge improvements, balance changes and bug fixes. Maximum download sizes for that release were listed as 11.7 GB on Xbox consoles, 4.1 GB through the Microsoft Store/Xbox app on PC and 2.5 GB on Steam. Halo Infinite Summer Operations
The official schedule listed Operation: Last Stand for May 6, Legacy for June 10 and Reclaimer for July 8. The season’s highlights included the Mutilator power weapon, a linear Firefight experience at Spartan Academy, sniper ricochets, expanded Weapons Bench customization, Juggernaut and a premium pass. These were Operations and modes for Halo Infinite, rather than content in the campaign remake. The schedule is on Halo Waypoint.
Halo Infinite Fall Operations
Halo Waypoint’s fall schedule listed Operation: Shadows on August 5, Warpath on September 9 and Haloween II on October 7. Shadows introduced the Falcon vehicle and Vestige Carbine, alongside playlist, sandbox and Forge additions and pass rewards. Its pass was described as a 50-tier premium pass and a 20-tier free pass; those tier counts apply to Shadows, not every Operation. Details are in the Fall Update announcement.
Halo Championship Series roadmap
The HCS roadmap addressed competitive play: map and mode rotation, sandbox changes, event broadcasts and partnered teams. Its listed additions included Origin Slayer, Origin CTF and Neutral Bomb Assault on Aquarius and Fortress. TSM and Shopify Rebellion were named as new partners. This is esports-season planning, not a feature list for Campaign Evolved. See the official HCS 2025 roadmap.
