If Hearthstone crashes or will not load on your PC, first work out whether Battle.net is still updating, the launcher is failing, the game is stuck at a loading screen, or an error code appears. Those symptoms can have different causes, so there is no single fix that applies to every case. Start with the reversible checks below before reinstalling or changing hardware.
Start by identifying where Hearthstone gets stuck
Note what happens and when: whether Battle.net is downloading or patching, whether the launcher opens, whether Hearthstone reaches its loading screen, and whether an error code appears. Also check whether other players are reporting the same issue. This helps distinguish a service or update problem from a problem local to your PC.
If you see a specific error code, search that exact code in Blizzard Support. Advice for one named error may not apply to a different crash.
Try these eight fixes in order
1. Check for a Blizzard service issue
Look for Blizzard in-app announcements and support status communications using Blizzard’s Hearthstone community forums. If many players are reporting the same problem, wait for service information rather than making disruptive changes to your PC. Blizzard’s Hearthstone connection troubleshooting guide recognizes service issues as one possible cause of connection trouble.

2. Let updates finish, then restart
If Battle.net is downloading or patching Hearthstone, allow it to finish before testing the game. If no update is in progress—or once it completes—close Hearthstone and Battle.net, reopen the launcher, and try again. Restarting is a low-risk check for a temporary stuck state, not a guaranteed cure.
3. Scan and repair Hearthstone
Damaged game files can cause patching or launch trouble. In Battle.net, open Hearthstone’s options or menu and choose Scan and Repair; the exact menu labels can vary with the app version. Blizzard’s Hearthstone installation and patching guide describes using the launcher’s repair tool.
4. Close overlays and background apps
Temporarily close optional overlays, deck trackers, and other applications, then test Hearthstone. Blizzard notes that other programs can conflict with games or compete for system resources in its general crash and lockup troubleshooting. If the game works, reopen the programs one at a time to find whether one is involved.

5. Update Windows and your graphics driver
Blizzard lists outdated drivers and operating systems among possible contributors to game issues. Install available Windows updates, then check for a graphics-driver update from your GPU maker or PC manufacturer. To identify your graphics hardware and current driver, use the Windows DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DxDiag). 6. Check security software only for relevant access errors
If the game reports C0000005, Blizzard’s guidance for that access-violation error includes checking whether security software is blocking game files, closing other applications, and updating drivers and Windows. Follow your security vendor’s instructions for a narrow allow-list exception if appropriate. Do not turn off security protection broadly, and do not assume C0000005 guidance diagnoses every crash. 7. Consider hardware stability only after basic checks
If the software steps do not help, overheating, overclocking, graphics-driver settings, or memory instability are possible avenues to investigate—not established Hearthstone causes. Blizzard discusses these possibilities in a Heroes of the Storm crash guide; that is cross-game guidance, not a Hearthstone-specific diagnosis. If a component is overclocked, returning it to factory settings may be a reasonable test. Get competent help before changing firmware or hardware settings.

8. Reinstall, then contact support if needed
If updates and Scan and Repair do not resolve the issue, reinstall Hearthstone as a last software step. If it still fails, contact Blizzard Support or use its technical forums. Include the exact error text or code, when the failure occurs, any recent changes to your PC or software, and your system details. Blizzard’s Hearthstone installation guide and C0000005 troubleshooting article direct players toward support or forums when their recommended steps do not resolve the problem.

A crash after a patch does not by itself identify the cause: damaged files, a launcher issue, or compatibility trouble are all possibilities. Blizzard’s guidance supports checking game files, drivers, and Windows, but does not establish one cause for every Hearthstone PC crash. The available guidance also does not establish exact current PC hardware requirements; consult Blizzard’s current Hearthstone requirements information before relying on numeric specifications.
