Ziplines are already back in Grounded 2: they arrived with the August 11, 2026, Into the Abyss update. That release also opened underwater areas in Skunk Pond, added diving gear and underwater building, and introduced the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. The roadmap’s next reported target is winter content, but its obscured details and lack of a 1.0 date mean those plans are not a promise of a specific release schedule.

What has shipped in Grounded 2

Grounded 2 launched in Game Preview on Xbox and Early Access on other listed platforms on July 29, 2025. Obsidian described it as an ongoing development project, with a public roadmap intended to evolve alongside player feedback. See Obsidian’s launch announcement.

Update Status and timing What it added or changed
Beat the Heat Shipped April 14, 2026 King Dozer, buggy progression, the Sinkhole Anthill, additional creatures and gear, building items, and Playgrounds Mode. Obsidian’s update notes.
Into the Abyss Shipped August 11, 2026 Underwater exploration in Skunk Pond, diving gear, underwater base building, new encounters, ziplines, and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. Xbox Wire’s update report.
Patch 0.5.0.5 Shipped September 2, 2026 Reduced mosquito and wasp aggression, adjusted the O.G.R.R. Toe Biter Leviathan encounter, and addressed crashes on all platforms, including out-of-memory crashes on PS5. Obsidian also said other issues remained. Obsidian’s patch notes.

What Into the Abyss added to Skunk Pond

The pond expansion goes beyond a new stretch of shoreline. Obsidian describes three areas—the Mountains, the Bayou, and underwater depths—with returning koi fish and diving bell spiders as well as new threats. The Toe Biter Buggy can travel both on land and in water, making it the first amphibious vehicle described in the update. The update’s underwater base building also gives players a new kind of place to establish and expand a base. More details are in Obsidian’s Into the Abyss deep dive.

What the winter roadmap says is coming

GamesRadar+’s report on the year-two roadmap describes a winter update with additional building content, buggies, bosses and creatures, plus Tier 4 Omni-Tools. The roadmap image left some map areas, an enemy type, and a building feature obscured, so their identities are not confirmed. The report gives a seasonal target, not an exact release date, and does not identify a 1.0 launch window. Treat the contents as plans that may change during Early Access, rather than as a dated feature guarantee. See GamesRadar+’s roadmap report.

Access and development status

As of the August 11, 2026 update report, Xbox Wire listed Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, Early Access on Steam, and PlayStation 5 availability, as well as access through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Availability can change, so check the current listing for your platform. Grounded 2 remains in preview/early access, and the September patch shows that tuning and fixes continued after the major August update.

Xbox Wire also reported that the Grounded series had more than 30 million players to date. That is a figure for the series as a whole, not a player count for Grounded 2.
