By the clearest public measures, yes: Battlefield 6 had the stronger documented beta-momentum case. EA reported 92,351,578 hours played during Battlefield 6’s Open Beta, and reporting on Steam concurrency put its beta peak above 500,000 players, compared with fewer than 100,000 Steam concurrents as Black Ops 7’s open beta began. Those numbers point to stronger visible interest for Battlefield 6, but they do not prove it had more players across every platform—or that its beta was better to play.
What the beta numbers can—and cannot—tell us
The strongest like-for-like public signal is Steam concurrency: how many people were playing on Steam at the same time. PC Gamer reported that Battlefield 6’s Steam beta peak exceeded 500,000 concurrent players. In the same report, Black Ops 7 had not reached 100,000 Steam concurrents as its open beta opened to everyone. The figures are a meaningful contrast in visible Steam interest, not a complete audience comparison: Call of Duty players on other PC platforms, including the Xbox app, are not counted.
The Black Ops 7 number is specifically tied to the opening of open access, not necessarily its eventual all-time peak. Neither figure is a count of unique participants, and Steam concurrency cannot establish how many people played on consoles or other PC launchers. The comparison also isn’t a simultaneous test: Battlefield 6’s beta ran in August 2025, while Black Ops 7’s took place from October 2 to 8.
EA’s playtime figure is a separate kind of evidence
EA reported that Battlefield 6’s Open Beta accumulated 92,351,578 hours played in its 2025 Play Your Way update. That is a publisher-reported total of engagement, not a number of distinct players. The reviewed official Black Ops 7 materials do not give a comparable beta-hours total or an equivalent all-platform unique-player count, so there is no matched playtime comparison.

That absence does not show that Black Ops 7 had low engagement. It means the available public figures answer different questions: EA supplied a total-hours statistic for Battlefield 6, while the clearest direct comparison comes from reported Steam concurrency.
How the beta schedules differed
Battlefield 6: August sessions
EA’s July 31, 2025 announcement scheduled Battlefield 6 beta access across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Early access ran August 7–8, followed by open weekends August 9–10 and August 14–17. EA published its Open Beta Debrief on August 21.
Black Ops 7: October access
Activision’s official announcement scheduled early access from October 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. PT for eligible preorder players and Game Pass subscribers. Open access followed from October 5, with the beta scheduled to close October 8 at 10 a.m. PT. Its official preview described the beta package and said the full game was planned for November 14, 2025.

Battlefield 6: balance, maps, and match flow
EA said the Open Beta featured smaller, faster maps; larger maps were planned for the release package and further Battlefield Labs testing. In its debrief, the publisher described player feedback and in-game data informing work on weapon balance, parachute physics, out-of-bounds access, Rush player counts, Breakthrough balance, and matchmaking.
- Weapons: EA cited adjustments to weapon recoil and tap-fire, as well as a reduction in the strength of the M87A1 shotgun.
- Map boundaries: The debrief noted fixes to out-of-bounds access.
- Rush: EA planned to lower the default player count, arguing that excessive numbers could undermine the mode’s tactical role. Portal would retain flexibility for players who wanted larger Rush matches.
- Breakthrough: EA described map-dependent player counts, such as 48 or 64, and a goal of balancing attacker and defender wins toward 50/50. That was a stated design goal, not a confirmed result.
- Matchmaking: EA said it was reviewing matchmaking based on beta feedback and data.
This gives Battlefield 6 a clear public record of specific post-beta decisions. It shows how EA described its iteration process; it does not by itself demonstrate that players preferred the resulting game.

Black Ops 7: multiplayer, Zombies, and progression tracking
Activision’s official beta materials highlighted multiplayer maps and modes, including the new Overload mode, as well as a Zombies Survival map. They also promoted reward milestones and a way to review personal statistics. The Call of Duty: NEXT recap included PC system requirements. These materials establish what players could try and track, but they do not provide a directly comparable public beta-hours total or a similarly detailed post-beta change list in the sources cited here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, which beta was better?
If “bested” means the stronger documented scale and Steam-interest case, Battlefield 6 has the edge: EA reported substantial Open Beta playtime, and reported Steam concurrency was much higher than Black Ops 7’s at the opening of open access. If “better” means more enjoyable, better balanced, or more satisfying to players, the available evidence does not settle it. There is no matched, independently measured satisfaction study here, and a higher concurrent count is not a quality score.
EA later said Battlefield 6 sold over 7 million copies in its first three days. That supports a strong launch claim, but it is post-beta sales context—not evidence of how many unique people played either beta or which one they preferred. Likewise, EA General Manager Byron Beede described Battlefield 6 as built with fan feedback, but that promotional statement is not independent proof of quality.
