There is no confirmed official explanation for why Bloodborne 2 has not happened. Shuhei Yoshida, formerly head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, offered a personal theory in a January 16, 2025 interview: he thought director Hidetaka Miyazaki cared deeply about the original, was too busy to make a sequel himself, and did not want another team to handle it. Yoshida stressed that he no longer knew what was happening inside Sony.
What did Shuhei Yoshida say about Bloodborne 2?
In an interview hosted by Kinda Funny Games and reported by Kotaku on January 16, 2025, Yoshida made clear that he was speculating, not speaking for PlayStation. “I have only my personal theory to that situation,” he said.

He then explained that theory: “I left first-party Sony, so I don’t know what’s going on but my theory is because I remember Miyazaki really, really loved Bloodborne, what he created and so I think he is interested, but he’s so successful and he’s so busy so he cannot do it himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.”
In other words, Yoshida’s suggested obstacle was a combination of Miyazaki’s workload and his possible reluctance to hand the game to another team. That is Yoshida’s interpretation of the situation—not a confirmed decision or policy from Sony, FromSoftware, or Miyazaki.

Does Miyazaki’s Déraciné comment mean he wants a sequel?
No. In a 2019 Game Informer interview, Miyazaki said the Bloodborne reference in FromSoftware’s game Déraciné was “just supposed to be a little homage.” He noted that people expected Bloodborne 2 after seeing it, and that the reaction “kind of got a little bit crazy.” The comment explains the reference; it is not a sequel announcement or a promise that one is in development.
What later reporting says about a possible remake
A separate PC Gamer report published February 27, 2026, attributing its account to Bloomberg, said Sony was receptive to a Bluepoint remake pitch but FromSoftware did not want it to proceed. The report did not provide the reason for FromSoftware’s position. This is later, secondary reporting about a remake proposal, not an explanation from Yoshida and not confirmation that his theory is correct.

Why the original partnership does not settle the question
Bloodborne was published by Sony as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. In 2015, Yoshida said Sony wanted to continue working with FromSoftware, while acknowledging the developer’s resource constraints and support for Miyazaki’s creative vision, as reported by GameSpot. That is useful historical context about the partnership, but it does not establish what either company currently plans for the series.

The sources cited here do not establish an official announcement of a sequel, release date, remake, remaster, or PC port. These are different kinds of possible return: a sequel would be a new game; a remake would rebuild the original; a remaster would update an existing release; and a PC port would bring it to another platform. Yoshida’s 2025 theory and the later remake-pitch report should not be mistaken for announcements of any of them.
