Into the Unjust launched for Helldivers 2 on September 2, 2025. The free major update added Terminid Hive Worlds, including randomly generated cave systems where players must hunt a Hive Lung with limited support from their Super Destroyer. The separate Dust Devils Premium Warbond followed on September 4, 2025.
What Into the Unjust added
Arrowhead described Into the Unjust as the game’s fourth major update, and it was available free on September 2, 2025. Its central new setting is the Terminid Hive World: a dangerous planet with hostile surface terrain and enormous cave networks. The launch-day announcements highlighted acid lakes, bug spires, destructible cave walls and roof openings that let squads call in stratagems.

The caves are randomly generated, so their layouts can vary between missions. That changes more than the scenery: players have to navigate enclosed spaces while dealing with enemies that can emerge from below, and cannot rely on the full range of Super Destroyer support underground. Xbox Wire’s September 2, 2025 launch article and the official Steam launch notes describe the update’s features.
What is the Hive Lung, and what do you do underground?
The Hive Lung—also called the Spore Lung in the official Steam mission description—is an underground Terminid objective associated with the Gloom. Squads must find it in the cave system and destroy it. The objective is built around cave exploration rather than simply fighting across open ground.

Support is constrained underground: the official announcement says the Super Destroyer cannot provide full support in the caves. Roof openings provide points where stratagems can be called, so using them depends on finding suitable openings as the team moves through the cave. The update also features destructible cave walls, which can affect how players move through the environment.
How the underground and surface missions differ
| Mission environment | Objective | What shapes the mission |
|---|---|---|
| Underground caves | Find and destroy the Hive Lung, called the Spore Lung in the Steam launch notes. | Randomly generated cave layouts, limited Super Destroyer support, roof openings for stratagems, and enemies that burrow through the terrain. |
| Hive World surface | Operate and escort the GATER mobile oil rig as it travels between drilling sites. | Open terrain marked by hazards such as acid lakes and bug spires. |
The GATER is a mobile oil rig used for the surface operation; the mission announcement describes players escorting it as it moves to drill sites. The cave mission instead centers on reaching and destroying the Hive Lung. The two environments therefore call for different priorities: navigating and coordinating support in the caves, versus protecting the rig while it travels above ground.

Which new Terminids appear?
The update’s announcement introduced burrowing versions of familiar threats, including Terminid Warriors, Bile Spewers and Chargers, as well as the airborne Dragonroach. The burrowers can attack from below, making the ground itself a source of danger, while the flying Dragonroach adds an aerial threat.

Dust Devils was a separate, paid Premium Warbond—not part of the free Into the Unjust update. Arrowhead announced it for September 4, 2025, two days after the update launched. Its announced equipment included the AR-2 Coyote assault rifle with incendiary ammunition, G-7 Pineapple cluster-frag grenade, S-11 Speargun with gas projectiles, EAT-700 Expendable Napalm and MS-11 Solo Silo. The Warbond also included armor sets, capes, player cards, an emote, a title and a vehicle/Hellpod pattern. Details appeared in the August 26, 2025 PlayStation announcement.

Is Into the Unjust still the latest Helldivers 2 update?
No. Into the Unjust is a September 2025 release, not the newest update as of October 8, 2026. Arrowhead’s official patch index records subsequent entries, including updates 6.1.0, 6.2.2, 6.3.0, 7.0.0 and 7.1.0. The Into the Unjust series also includes patch 6.0.1, dated August 30, 2026; its notes cover PC hang detection along with balance and crash fixes. The index lists later updates, so 6.0.1 should be read as part of the patch history, not as the current live version.
