Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that a second installment of Hogwarts Legacy is in its games pipeline. That supports the existence of a sequel, but the announcement does not specify a production stage or release date. “Hogwarts Legacy 2” is a familiar shorthand, not a confirmed final title.
What Warner Bros. confirmed
In its Q2 2026 shareholder letter, Warner Bros. Discovery said: “We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.” The wording identifies a sequel project in the company’s games pipeline. It does not name an individual speaker for the written statement. Game Informer reported the confirmation on August 17, 2026; Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q2 2026 results materials were dated August 6, 2026.

Some coverage describes the sequel as in development. The company’s quoted wording, however, is “the second installment” in its pipeline; it does not establish how far development has progressed. “In production” should not be read as confirmation of a particular production phase.
What has not been announced
The reviewed announcement does not provide a final title, release date or window, platforms, development studio, setting, story, or gameplay details. It also gives no sequel-specific sales, budget, schedule, or other project figures. Treat these details as unannounced rather than assuming they will match the original game.

Avalanche Software developed the first Hogwarts Legacy, but that does not establish that the studio is assigned to the sequel. Likewise, the original game’s platforms do not confirm which systems a sequel will support.
What the first game is, and where to play it
The released Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action role-playing game set in the 1800s wizarding world. Warner Bros. Games says Avalanche Software developed it under the Portkey Games label. Players take the role of a fifth-year student who can use ancient magic. Warner Bros. Games’ official game page covers the original release and editions.

The first game launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 10, 2023, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 5, 2023. Warner Bros. Games later announced Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 editions; its Switch 2 announcement was dated June 5, 2025. These are platforms for the original game only, not a sequel announcement. Check the current retailer listing for edition and availability before buying.
Warner Bros. Games called the original “#1 selling new release of 2023,” based on sales through September 2023 and citing Circana, GSD, and its internal estimates. Separately, Game Informer reported more than 22 million copies sold for the original in 2026; that is a secondary report about the first game, not a sequel figure.
