One creator says they ordered the frames by referencing the reveal trailer; another participant noted that the sheet was incomplete.
Where the Hornet sprite sheet came from
The sheet appeared in IGN coverage of Silksong being playable at ACMI’s exhibition. In its May 2, 2025 article, IGN reported that ACMI supplied the sheet; it was not presented as a new asset released directly by Team Cherry. The published view shows Hornet in a range of poses, but it should not be treated as a complete archive of her animations. IGN’s report, republished by Yahoo, also notes that the reason for one cloak-holding pose was unknown.
How fans assemble the frames
A sprite sheet collects separate character images that can be arranged into motion. Reddit user Exact-Advertising630 described their approach to a spider-crawl reconstruction: “A sprite sheet consists of all the different frames that make up an animation so I just put them together in the correct order (by referencing the reveal trailer ) to make this.” That is the creator’s account of this reconstruction, not an official animation workflow.
In practice, a fan selects poses that appear related, arranges them into a plausible sequence, then plays them in succession. The reveal trailer gave this creator a reference for ordering. Another participant in the discussion said it was difficult to identify and order the frames and that the sheet was not complete; the creator agreed it was not full. The result is therefore best read as an interpretation of the available images, not proof that every selected frame belongs to one complete move or that the timing matches the game.

The fan reconstruction and discussion show both the appeal and the limitation: a still image collection can suggest movement, but gaps in the source leave room for choices about which frames belong together and how they should play.
What the reconstructions do—and do not—tell us about Hornet
Team Cherry’s official game description establishes the broader context: Hornet is the protagonist of an adventure through a new kingdom, with acrobatic movement, attacks, silken abilities and crafted tools. The studio describes the game as a hand-crafted 2D adventure and says Hornet “must master a whole new suite of powerful moves to survive.” That description does not confirm the identity, purpose or completeness of any particular fan-assembled sequence.

The cloak-holding pose remains unexplained
The cloak-holding image drew jokes and speculation online. IGN’s reported headline framed the question as “What Calls For Hornet to Remove her Cloak Like an Exhausted Dad Home From Work?”—a humorous outlet framing, not a line from the game or Team Cherry. Neither the report nor the available official description explains the pose’s in-game purpose. It should not be treated as confirmation of a costume option, upgrade, cutscene or resting animation.

Putting images from a published sheet into a short social-media animation does not require modifying Silksong. A separate modding guide describes inspecting and replacing assets in the game, including workflows that identify sprite collections, atlases and individual frames. Its examples identify Hornet in a scene as Hero_Hornet(Clone), while the collection is named Knight; one example frame path is Sprites/Knight/atlas2/idle0000.png. The guide cautions that names can change with patches, so they should be checked against the current build.

The guide distinguishes replacing a single frame from replacing an entire atlas. Neither operation is evidence of how the fan reconstruction was made: the creator described ordering frames against the reveal trailer, not using the game’s modding tools. The modding documentation is useful for a different task—examining or changing current in-game assets.
