At Player Level 55 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you can choose to enter Prestige. Your Player Level resets to 1, and level-gated items return to the unlock track—but this is a progression reset, not a wholesale deletion of your weapon progression or owned content. Each time you enter a new Prestige, you also receive one Permanent Unlock to keep access to a chosen item from the level unlock progression.
What happens when you Prestige?
BO6’s standard Player Level progression runs to level 55. Reaching that level makes the next Prestige available; the game does not force you to enter it. Choosing Prestige starts your Player Level progression over at level 1, and you climb the level unlock track again.

The system has 10 Prestige levels. After completing Prestige 10, you enter Prestige Master, which adds 1,000 levels. These are progression-system counts described by Call of Duty’s 2024 launch guide.
What gets reset—and what does not?
Level-gated access
Items tied to Player Level become unavailable when your level falls below their unlock requirement. You must reach the required level again to unlock them through the normal progression track, unless you use a Permanent Unlock on that item. Check the current in-game Progression screen for the status of a specific item, since unlock details can vary by item and may change with updates.

Permanent Unlocks
Each time you enter a new Prestige, you receive one Permanent Unlock. Spend it on one item from the level unlock progression to maintain access to that item while you level up again. It preserves access to the selected item; it does not keep every level-gated item unlocked.
Weapon progression and owned content
Prestige resets Player Level progression; do not treat it as a blanket deletion of weapon levels, camos, blueprints, or everything owned on your account. The official descriptions focus on the Player Level and stats reset, and note that blueprints and equipment skins can permanently unlock their associated base item. Because item-specific access can differ, verify it in the in-game Progression screen rather than assuming Prestige affects every item the same way.

Stats
Some account stats, including Elimination/Death Ratio, start fresh when you Prestige. That is separate from whether a particular item remains available: a stats reset does not mean all earned or owned content has been deleted.
What changes at Prestige Master?
After Prestige 10, Prestige Master opens a further 1,000 levels. The standard level unlock progression is fully available once you enter Prestige Master, so you no longer need to restart that track. Permanent Unlocks no longer serve their usual purpose once all level unlocks are available.

Does Prestige progression apply to Zombies and Warzone?
Progression is shared across Multiplayer and Zombies. Warzone joined the overall progression system in Season 1. Call of Duty’s launch material distinguishes BO6 owners from free-to-play Warzone players: BO6 owners receive additional Prestige rewards that are not available to free-to-play Warzone players. That does not mean every Prestige reward requires BO6 ownership.
Should you Prestige as soon as you reach level 55?
There is no universally best time; the official mechanics describe how Prestige works, not when each player should use it. Before choosing, weigh the next Prestige’s rewards and Permanent Unlock against the inconvenience of regaining access to level-gated items. If a particular level unlock is important to your loadout, consider whether to spend your Permanent Unlock on it. You can also wait at level 55 rather than starting over immediately.
Activision describes BO6 as bringing back “Classic Prestige” and calls it “the most rewarding version of Prestige that Call of Duty has ever seen.” That is the publisher’s promotional characterization; the practical mechanics are the level reset, rewards, and unlock progression described above.
