Hollow Knight: Silksong did not have a release date tied to the ROG Xbox Ally. In June 2025, Team Cherry marketing and publishing manager Matthew Griffin clarified that the game was planned to arrive before that year’s holiday season, not alongside the handheld. Team Cherry later announced a September 4, 2025 release, and the game is now available.
Why the Xbox Ally announcement caused confusion
At Xbox’s showcase for the ROG Xbox Ally on June 8, 2025, Xbox president Sarah Bond said Silksong “will be available at launch and in Game Pass when the Ally releases later this year.” The phrasing could be read to mean the game would launch on the same day as the handheld. VGC reported the wording and the resulting interpretation in its June 9 coverage.
What Team Cherry clarified
Griffin responded on the game’s Discord, as reported by VGC. He wrote, “I confirmed BEFORE holiday,” and added, “We are not tied to a console release.” In context, “before holiday” referred to the planned 2025 release window; it was not a promise that the game would arrive with the Ally or a continuing estimate of when it would launch.
When did Hollow Knight: Silksong come out?
Team Cherry later set the release for September 4, 2025. VGC reported the date following a new trailer on August 21, and Steam’s store listing records September 4, 2025 as the release date, with Team Cherry listed as developer and publisher.

Platforms and Game Pass availability
VGC reported that the September 4 release covered PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series consoles, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, with day-one availability through Game Pass. The Ally statement described availability when the handheld arrived; it did not establish that the game’s release date depended on that hardware launch.
Physical editions are a separate release detail
Fangamer announced physical editions on May 28, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 (also playable on Nintendo Switch), and Xbox. Its current US product listing names Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X editions. It lists a 32-page manual and a 9-by-12-inch poster as pack-ins, and says the Sea of Sorrow DLC is not on the game media and will be available as a free download.
